you pulled my leg!

when the spring comes and the threat of cold days has gone, i will be planting a box with a disposable camera in it. it will be a limited time box and i will call it "show me your crazy face, 2007!" once the camera is full, the box will be pulled. oh man, i so can't wait to plant it. i get goose bumps just thinking about it.

i will post all the pictures on my blog for a vote on the 1st annual "craziest face award".
the catch is, if you take a picture of your crazy face, it automaticly gives me permission to put your mug on my blog for a vote!

I think it's an awesome idea. I had thought of doing that too when I learned about geocaching and how they do it over there. Haven't done it yet, but may be some time I will. What fun! :)

My DH had this idea....as I'm waiting for my first box to be found! He was like...wouldn't it be fun to have a disposable camera and take pics of them getting your box!

I think your idea is WAY COOL! Do it! Can't wait to see the pics!

My husband actually had the same idea and thought about doing it this spring as well.

In 2002 we held our first outdoor letterbox gathering in the Pacific Northwest. Several boxes from out of state boxers were hidden for the event. I put a disposable camera in the one from pioneering Omaha letterboxer, Scott Redd. Everyone who logged into the box took a self portrait shot and after the event I took the camera with me on a trip around Oregon, snapping it with Mount Hood, waterfalls, old growth timber, the Crooked River Canyon and the Pacific Ocean in the background. I then returned the photo laden letterbox to Scott. He developed the photos, posting them on his Letterboxing Nebraska Wiki and then hid the letterbox in his hometown. It was a big success and I'm sure yours would be as well. Funhog

I wou ld never have found this if it hadn't been for Briefs, either....this is THE coolest idea to come down teh pike in a long time...i LOVE IT!! I will be watching for posts on how you are proceeding and I'd love to steal the idea, too, at some point.....

I was thinking on my next plant to take a picture on where the box will be and printing the photo on a full page sticker. Then using the sticker to cover the box as camo. Has anyone tried this??? I am just afraid of the longevity of the sticker.

you could take leaves and sand or dirt and glue it to the box.
not that it is a bad idea, the concern of the longevity of the sticker is the question.
i would only imagine that any sticker only fall off after being out in the weather for to long.
i mean, it is worth a try i guess.
any idea is worth doing atleast once.

Unless you could figure out a way to stick the sticker on the inside of a clear box... if the sticky was on the photo part... maybe some scrapbooking adhesive or something. People might still see the outline of the box but it might add to the camo anyway. =)

I'm wondering if I used the sticker and then covered over it with clear tape.

i thought about that. if you use tape that doesn't shine any, you should be fine.
next question: where can you find tape that doesn't shine?

I guess I did sound as if I did not know that! but really I did! I was the one on Yahoo graffiti that would be typing as fast as I could all the state names in the US where the person was drawing only to find out that they did not know geography at all and would have west coast states somewhere in the middle or some other fool thing. Thank GOD I found boxing so I could get off that addictive game to spend hours at AQ.

That is a good question too. I don;t know if there is such a thing as a strong matte tape. Also, if the tape gives a bit at the edges it may let in and hold moisture. I like your idea still of gluing items from the area to the box.

if i think of anything else, i will certainly let you and everyone else know.
the giving of the tape was a thought, but i didn't want to keep up with the bad news.

there are 2 options from that point.
take it or leave it.
i would rather not risk my boxes to clear duct tape.

oh wait... forgot it was shiny... mine is usually in the bottom of a drawer with crud stuck to it, so it looks a bit less shiny. my bad.

it is like playing pictionary with your mouse as the drawing tool. I did this non stop all last winter. you can play alone or as a team. there are some on there that are unfriendly to newbies, but go ahead and try it. it is a scream and when you are trying to draw something to depict 'ford' and they are guessing house, saturn, taxi, golf cart ect and you are now off your chair rolling on the floor laughing till your sides hurt and cannot even indicate which guess is the closest! Fun Fun Fun. But AQ is way better and at some point the goal is to get out of the house and go and actually letterbox !

warning: for those who like games and drawing it IS addictive!

Ummm, I was eavesdropping. Amazing how I could hear you clear in Texas huh? But, what game are you talking about? What's the addy to find this game. I guess I could google it. I wasn't thinking. It is late for me. I'm ready for bed, but this game sounds like a lot of fun. Night.
