To letterbox on trails I start;
But ticks attack my nether part.
Ticks demonstrate extreme poor taste
When they embed below the waist.
And what they taste, it seems to me,
Is out-of-bounds; don't you agree?
Extraction can be difficult;
My first-aid book I must consult.
Tweezers or a smold'ring match
May from my "friend" the tick detach.
"Prevent the bite" the book exhorts:
I'll spray some DEET inside my shorts.

You should be working for Hallmark, I'd buy that card. Maybe just create a stamped image to go with it?

I stuck all or our clothes directly in the washing machine, did the hottest load possible and had a tick walking around on the stuff when I grabbed it out?!!! I think I'll try the bath tub method.

Ticks can survive almost anything and if you flick them off they can fly(?) back onto you so I carry scotch tape with me and wrap them up in that. They can't escape. Somehow I've not seen one on me this year but Gizz has found a couple.

I use my pocket knife to scrape them off with, then cut them in half. I used to flip out if I had one on me, now they don't bother me so much, though I still hate them. Now it's BB3 that flips out when they are on her, so I'm sure she'll sympathize with you Linda. I'll side with TD on this one! ;)

I used to work for the forest service in northern Wisconsin. There were 4 of us that would tromp through the woods each day and at then end of the day we'd be covered in ticks. We used to plug in the Suburban's cigarette lighter and drop the ticks in the hot lighter. They pop like popcorn! Disgusting, probably cruelty, but amusing, and it definitely killed 'em.

We carry a small sized lint roller. It works especially well when driving down the highway on the way home and one of those little suckers runs across your leg!

I agree completely with the Vs!! I don't know how many times we've checked ourselves before getting in the car, and later on, look down, and there's a bugger crawling up our pant leg or shirt sleeve. Thanks for that invaluable tip!!

Oh I know!!! You thought you can put that tick spray away when november rolled around but, Nope! My dog had 20 the other day one her. She as well had about 7 of them crawling on her fur. I had 2, myself. In the beginning of June. I got a tick, didn't notice it for a day and woke up with such pain in my armpit. There it was. A tick... a day later I got a ring around the bite. I had to get antibiotics for that damn thing! Be very careful and always check yourself! My mom got severe lyme disease and still has never found the tick or the bite. Lyme disease can kill. Unfortunately we live where the damn disease was first found. Yay!

You can get ticks all winter, even on a snowy day in February, if the weather gets about 40 degrees or so.

Right. But we've had an abnormal warmth this winter.

Are you going to reply telling me how this warmth is normal now? Since you like to always correct me

I was agreeing with you. You said you can get ticks in November, and I agreed with that. If that was actually an oblique way of saying it's warm, then that went right over my head.

Permethrin-based sprays on clothing kill them.

Does any type work well or are they all the same? do you soak your clothes or spray it on? I am really tired of the tick bites and find myself wishing for the mosquitoes again.
