Perhaps a fiber arts board would be more all-encompassing. or do the knitters cringe when considering sharing a board with the crochet crowd, spinners and tatters? And, let's not even think what would happen if we included the quilters!

I'm calling it the Knitting board for now, but it's really for all that stuff. Crochet, cross-stitching, quilters, and what the heck is a spinner and tatter? Nevermind, I don't really want to know. =)

If there's a generic term for all of those hobbies, though, I'll be happy to rename the board appropriately.

Especially if you use cotten linters in your 'mush' (as my kids call it...of course, they've also called it paper vomit on occasions...lol...my kids are weird, but cool that way.)

ohohohoh try dryer lint! lovely colors and great texture to the paper!

I do...my hubby even knows to put the dryer lint in a ziploc baggie for me....and the dryer sheets too. They make nice faux mulberry paper.

I haven't used cotton linters yet, but I have used quite a few day lily leaves, yucca, Johnson grass, ginko leaves.... I love the natural plant fibers. :) Beautiful stuff!!

OK so do I have to be MAKING the paper TOO???? I have jsut started wrappin my tiny brain around putting together logbooks and carving stamps....Now I have to collect dryer lint and make glop to then create one of a kind paper...CALGON TAKE ME AWAY!!!!

I do crochet though...great therapy...my dh knows I have had it when he comes home and I am quietly in the corner with my yarn and hook....it's NOT a good thing!!! ; )

Well...let's see so far:

Instead of using scrapbooking paper for log covers I've used fabric (sometimes only gluing it on like I do with paper, sometimes going further and then sewing around the edges as well), dressed up quite a few with ribbons and/or buttons through the binding holes of books, and for my extra-super-duper-special-boxes I make a fabric "envelope" for the stamp, complete with a ribbon or velcro closure instead of just tossing the stamp in some paper towels. I've made these for other stuff, but haven't used 'em for 'boxing - wittle tiny drawstring bags that I think I'll make to put stamps in....at some point.

Now I'm trying to think how it's possible to "knit a letterbox."

I also splurged on "Knitting on the Edge" last night. A pricy book, but it has the coolest edging patterns

Right now I'm knitting myself a pair of gauntlets. And I'm also working on a pair of toddler mittens for charity.
I belong to a group called Humble Hands at church (I'll post the site later, it has pictures)

Ooh, yes! My favorite pair of socks I've made used this really cool self-patterning yarn. It looks like I did something really fancy, but it was all the yarn!

I have an uncomfortable meeting to sit through at work this morning, so I decided that I would wear my very first pair of hand knit socks-- they're intentionally made as opposites of each other and from that varigated yarn, since I knit them both at the same time and from opposite ends of the skein. My feet feel fabulous, so at least *they'll* be comfortable!! And when the sparks start to fly around the room (which is virtually certain), I can look down at my feet and smile... A talisman against discomfort, in every sense of the word!! They really are fun to knit, too. It's almost magical to see how the different sections of the yarn make such cool designs. :)

One of these days, I want to knit a pair of toe socks--the ones like gloves, but for the feet. Maybe with each toe in a different color. That would definitely make me smile! <g>

I have some fine grey wool. It has sections of dark grey here and there.
I love the stuff. I'm making gauntlets out of it right now.

But when I'm done, I should have enough for lace socks.

Lace socks? Gauntlets? Where do you find these things? I haven't picked up my sticks in quite awhile, but I don't think I've ever seen such pretty things.

I did notice a new yarn shop in town. It is in an old mansion along one of my regular routes and it makes me wonder just how long it has been there. Next time I've got just a couple of minutes to spare I'm stopping.
