PZ Cut is desired by many experienced/addicted boxers as it is quite inexpensive when compared to the pink stuff ( Speedy Stamp)......$5 for compared to $13 for the extra large sheet, you are not limited by the size of an eraser so that you can do bigger or more elaborate sized stamps, and it is extremely firm..which allows INCREDIBLE detail.

It does take some getting used to, after carving soft materials such as Master Carve, erasers and the pink stuff...but you can get up to speed VERY quickly with just a little practice. Deep gouges are NOT required for this material as it's firm texture holds up well and the shallowest cut will stamp up extremely well. It is easiy glued to a foam backing( such as the foam door hangers you see at the dollar store) and is thin enough to not take up a lot of room in a box...even when backed.

You can order Grade A, which is nice and smooth, or Grade B, which might have some teeny tiny imperfections you can work around. There IS a right side and a wrong side and it is marked for you when you receive it. Do yourself a favor and dot the back( marked) side of the material with a Sharpie or other marker when you get it so you don't cut off the mark made for you from Stampeaz.

Shipping is the same whether it's one sheet or 4 or 5 sheets so you might want to go in on an order with friends and save yourself a bundle. The new owner of Stampeaz, Webfoot, is a dedicated boxer and carver and is very eager to help you bring your carving up to the next level. Great products, fast shipping, and lots of great advice!

Welcome to the addiction.

I don't know which is which, but I have trouble getting the ink to stamp right on the orange stuff. I've learned to ink it, let it dry then re-ink and then it will only lightly cover. Is there some trick to getting a good stamp with the orange stuff? I'd appreciate any advice. HA

I've found that after one or two inkings it seems to work OK. I don't have a big selection of inks so one type may work better than others. I have read where some folks will *color* the stamp the first time with a sharpie pen and let it dry before they ink up.

I hope this helps a little.

What if some foolish person, not understanding what the "A" meant, cut off the part on which the right side is marked? (I can't imagine who would do such a thing!) Is there any way to tell which is which?

You might be able to look closely at boths sides and see which one is the *best* side. If not then don't worry about it. In the future put marks on the *marked side* before carving (learned this the hard way) so when you cut your carving out there will still be marks on the * wrong side*.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'm glad that I'm not the only one to have done this! Next time, I will definitely mark the entire sheet when I get it.

B sheets have some minor imperfections, but you can work around them. Some people find that orange is more difficult to ink up. I ahve had difficulty when using markers on the orange, I jsut ahd to act quickly. I made a stamp of a cute picture of my daughter in the orange and jsut used a black stamp pad to ink up. It worked out really well. I now use orange to carve all people and white for everything else. I think orange is a little firmer.

I just got done with my stamp carving experiment. I ordered everything that Webfoot had on www.stampeaz.com and definitely would choose PZ Cut in the future for the way it carves and it's cost. Speaking of that, I have to place a new order. I can't believe I went through all of it already. I guess I have to give my cute little stamps a hug goodbye and send them out into the world.

I am fighting Jack with Jack! I am still scouting out some spots, but should have my first box placed by Friday.

I am also hugely excited about what my first boxes have been (especially my very first one, since I walked by it hundreds of times before I even knew what letterboxing was). They were really fun and cool boxes.
