OK, I admit it, I'm a hardcore Nancy Drew fan. I have spent the last 2 days playing her latest mystery game (yes, I have them all), and I got to thinking about a Nancy Drew PLB. I'm going to look through my old books (yes, I'm 35 and I have a Nancy Drew library) to see what images are there and what they inspire, but in the meantime I thought I would find out if there was enough interest for a ring. Personally I could never get tired of Nancy but I don't know about you folks. So, anybody up for it?

There are also two Nancy Drew Boxes going around right now, by Moonseeker.
You might want to check in with her about getting those.

We "Do the Drew" at our house, too. My daughters are 19, 19, 17, and 14, and we still sit around the computer and work through the latest mystery! We like the fact that you can die and come right back to where you were! The kids like to do that on purpose...let Nancy's air run out, lol.

There are little phrases that have made their way into the family lexicon..."Something's missing here!"

Hey Red Soup,

I would love to join the Nancy Drew PLB. Don't feel alone, I love her and I am even older than you, but not as old as dirt--yet! I have her books(the older ones) and the less remembered Trixie Belden. Wow, such memories. Please sign me up.

oooh, count me in! I and my daughter (MysteryGirl) are still working through a bunch of the computer games that Santa brought and we love them and the books too.

I have three Nancy Drew virtual LBs here on AQ if you are fans of the books. The images are all hand-carved from the book illustrations. Which is why there are only three so far. :)

The Trixies are currently back in print with lovely, revised artwork. The books are glossy hardbacks and available everywhere - I've seen them at all my local bookstores. I don't think they did much updating to the stories, but they can't be any more passe than some of the Nancys.

And it goes without saying that I am in for the Nancy PLB! In fact, I am in the process of putting together a "special" logbook for the various Nancy-related LB stamps I've collected over the years. I was inspired by Mr. Doglvrs and her "altered books."

P.S. Everyone knows there's a Nancy Drew movie coming out in June, right??

I had actually had the idea to start a Nancy Drew Ring too! (after I finish up my Musicals Ring!!) So of course I am really excited about the idea. I was thinking of having everyone pick a specific book and carve a stamp for it. Have you made the tracker yet?? Sign me up.

Another idea for a Nancy Drew ring of stamps is WWNDD? What Would Nancy Drew Do? I was thinking about this too after the dog attack thread and WWJBD? What would Jack Bauer Do? On the Nancy Drew Sleuth Boards at Yahoo.com, we often talk about WWNDD? in a given situation. There are many examples from the books.

Fix a Flat Tire, Read Invisible Ink, Have Lunch at a Tea Room, Fly a Plane, Tap Dance in Morse Code, Help put out a fire,

And Princess Lea has the phrase WWNDD? on her license plate holder!

This website has some great reviews of the Nancy Drew books. Concentrating on the fashions and the food! :-)

Trixie RULED! Nancy was still a girlie girl compared to Trixie's tomboy escapades! :-) I started collecting those on eBay just for the look of the book, but they ARE republishing them now.

The other two girls I liked (strangely enough) was a girl named Cherry Ames (http://www.netwrx1.net/CherryAmes/), who was a nurse in all these different places and Katie John, who wasn't really a mystery solver, just a great tomboy character. I couldn't really relate to Cherry, but I loved the formulaic story lines (girl becomes nurse at place, place has mystery with injuries involved, girl fixes injuries & solves mystery, girl moves on to new place).

Some of Trixie were ebay, but most I found at the good old used book stores. Hiding on a shelve waiting to be discovered.

My sister was the Nancy Drew fan (and got all the ND books for birthdays and such), but wouldn't share her collection with her little sis. ;-) I did have fun with Katie John and a number of other great tomboy characters, though. I can see that I'm going to have to explore the ND possibilities here! LOL!

I also read the Cherrys and she is the reason I decided to become a nurse. Poor Cherry, she could never hold down a job, it seems, changing with every book. I am still trying to figure out how to apply to be a Cruise Nurse or a Department Store Nurse.

Back on the topic of Nancy Drew, yes my license plate is NNCYDRW and the license plate holder reads "What Would Nancy Do?" Some lady stopped me in a parking lot to tell me that she had gotten stuck mountain climbing and got herself out by asking herself "what would Nancy Drew do in this situation?" so she very much enjoyed my plate holder. Will have to go think of something inspired for the ring.

P.S. to Sprite - if you look closely at that web site you posted, you will see my name on some of the "foreign editions" pages (aka Around the World) - I helped Ellie by providing scans of some of my books

When I was about nine or ten, my grandmother pulled some first edition Nancy Drew books out for me to read while visiting her. They had belonged to my mother's older cousins and had then been passed down to my mother and her sister.

(My mother tells the story of her reading The Secret in the Old Attic while listening to The Shadow on the old radio -- and being terrified!)

Years later, after I had devoured them plus some of the yellow later editions at the library, my grandmother gave me the collection. I treasure them, and my daughters also began reading them a couple of years ago.

We've got many of the Judy Bolton books and Dana Girls series as well. Three series. Three daughters. The inheritance issue is solved.

So, now you all are thinking about starting a ND Postal Ring -- hmmmm. We're pecking away at these state birds -- hmmmmm. No chance you'll wait until the fall to start it, huh? Kidding, of course. But it sounds like great fun. We might be able to stir up three generations of carved Nancy Drews over here if it weren't for such a busy schedule. Agghhhh!
