You know they're hooked...

My seven year old daughter asked if we could go letterboxing this weekend. I explained it was far too cold for my wimpy self, and with the snow on the ground it would probably be hard to decipher most of the clues we would read related to outside landmarks and trails.

She got a pouty face and announced, "Okay - I'm ready for the snow to go away now..."

I haven't told her yet there's a new indoor box to find planted by the Land Pirates because I'll never hear the end of it if we don't go find it RIGHT NOW and I'm also a wimp when it comes to driving on icy roads! (I had a car accident a few years ago on black ice and completely rolled the car in a ditch and totalled it - I think I have a right to be wimpy!)

Is anybody else braving the snow to letterbox?

Yep. 114 crazy snow-boxers have signed up for Desperately Seeking Sun. 114 and counting, that is...since the event is still a month away! Gatherings like this really help tide you over until the spring returns. Winter boxing is great for meeting and greeting, carving parties and drive-bys or short hikes...preferably on snowshoes for this chickie. I still prefer the fall though. No spring mud or summer bugs and heat. Just beautiful swags of colorful leaves among the craggy mountains and tumbling waterfalls. I Love New York!

Yup! Found three boxes this week so far, and all were in the snow and cold. About 22 degrees. Us poor transplanted Southerners...

Found 4 yesterday in Spokane, they had about two inches of snow on the ground. Was actually not too bad out even with the snow. Sun was shinning and the temps were about 20, spent about several hours out in it in just in my new letterboxing shirt.

Mama Heffalump

We braved the ice and snow and teen weather to go out and look for 4 boxes. Ended up finding 3 which gave us our 100th box here on AQ:)

But I have slid on black ice before too, so I say you have a right. Dh was driving, so I just studied my clues while we were driving:)

You all sound like candidates for my new box called - Some Will Turn Out in all Weathers! Pity you can't get over here.

I braved the snow and ice today, braved the wind and rain...ok I exaggerated on the rain part. But I went out and found several today just a little ways west of Seattle (East Bremerton). Surpisinly how many non boxers were out today, was rather tough trying to be descrete. Need to work on my Stealth techniques.

Okay, I've read all your posts and I really am a wimp! LOL!

We're having trouble just getting in and out of our neighborhood due to the ice being so bad. Northwest News (Channel 2) has even done reports on our very neighborhood because people are having so much trouble getting to their houses due to the severity of the hills here (I live in the highlands of Kirkland). We see people just parking their cars on the main road and just walking home because they can't manage the icy hills. I'm lucky to own a Suburban and we've been able to tackle it, though we had someone come close to spinning out into us this morning just trying to exit the neighborhood. Hubby refuses to drive his PT Cruiser to work so we're sharing the truck...and he's no wimp dealing with this weather being a native of Connecticut! Being a Florida native myself, this snow is all a mystery to me at times. Can't believe we have more in the forecast for Tuesday.

While sledding yesterday at the corner park, we had a bald eagle fly over us. Have never seen that in our neighborhood and it was quite a beautiful sight.

But now after reading the posts, we might just have to try and tackle a letterbox later this week so I can join the "snowboxing club!"

I live at the bottom of a very steep hill and they have closed the street that comes down the hill. But you can reach my place via flatter roads blocks over.
The locals all come to this street to sled down! I was woken up last night by guys sledding down it at 3 am!!! (they sled especially late at night because at the bottom are flat cross streets that you sled thru) no traffic at 3 am.

I was at the beach all weekend.. and in the 6 inches of snow at Manzanita we did manage to find 2 boxes. I was with some "barely boxers" or we probably would have found more. It was beautiful and lots of fun.

It's really still way too snowy up here to plant... we thought we wouldn't be able to note landmarks as well when they're covered in snow and ice! So, today we thought we'd check on one of our boxes today since another in the series had been recently found out in the open.

Dad Gryffindor and Oldest Daughter Gryffindor hit an icy patch on the path and fell - HARD - TWICE! Youngest Daughter Gryffindor and I climbed off-trail a bit and went around, but it was really quite horrid. As they fell for the second time another hiking couple came around a corner. The man said that he had fallen in that exact spot earlier today. :(

So, while we braved the snow today... we won't be doing it again until it clears.

Grounded for now... Carianna of GG
