That translation by computer is kind of off.

Letterbox. No Destruya Ni Quite, por favor.
Disfrute del contenido, y vuelve todo a donde lo encontro', escondiendolo de la vista de otros. Para aprender más sobre letterboxing, visite www.letterboxing.org o' atlasquest.com. Si el contenido esta dañado o se ha perdido, por favor mande un e-mail a (your e-mail address here).

Disfrute instead of Goce. Although they both mean enjoy, Goce has more of a "rejoice" connotation to me.

Ocultado de la vision is really awkward. Obscured from vision is the best was I can translate that back to english. What I wrote says "hiding it from others' view."

I added Atalsquest.com, cause...hello? :)

PS, my html tags for italics are not working??

Anyway, that's my translation.

Can someone please add the diacritical marks?

By the way, I know a Uruguayan woman who named her daughter Kaaren. At the time I thought the spelling was odd.

I have never figured out how to do that with my computer. Seriously, when I write a letter in Spanish, I print it out and then add the accents, etc. before I mail it off to mom, or abuelo, etc.

(Mom was trying to be creative with the Kaaren. She knew someone....not German.....now I cannot remember (Dutch?), who named their daughter Kaaren. So, mom thought she'd name me that as well. This is the same mom who named her other two Hispanic daughters Brenda and Vicky.)

If you have a PC, it's a matter of holding down the <ALT> key while typing in an ASCII code on the keypad (not on the top row of the QWERTY keyboard). For example, é is <ALT>-0233.

There's also something in Windows called the Character Map that allows you to pick these things off a chart. I find it helpful to set the Character Map up so it's a quicklaunch item in the toolbar; then it's there whenever I need it.

Quote Is there a Spanish-language version of AQ? And if so, what is the pastime called on it? Or on French versions, or German versions, whatever?

Took me awhile to find the relevant post on Yahoo Groups since it was a few years ago I posted it, but a few years back I planted a box and the clues were completely Spanish. I wanted to figure out what "letterboxing" would be in Spanish and posted my insights at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/letterbox-usa/message/23109

You can read some of the replies which bring up some good points.

Letterboxing is not a proper name, though. Proper names are generally capitalized. Individual letterboxes have proper names, but the name of the hobby is just a boring old noun and I like the idea of "Spanish-izing" it. I cringe whenever I hear an English word used in Spanish that hasn't been translated to a Spanish equivalent.

I ended up using the word cajacartas in my clues. Of all the options I came up with, I thought that "sounded" the best and most like something a natural Spanish-speaker might say. But I'm just a gringo. Take it for what it's worth. =) There is no official Spanish translation for letterbox, letterboxing, or letterboxer, so pretty much anything that suits your fancy could be considered correct.

I suppose as time marches on and one particular version of the word gains traction (which it hasn't, yet), that would then be the proper translation.

I did write a Spanish version of "you found a letterbox" message, but I'm not sure if I saved a copy of it anywhere. *scratching head*

All other languages such as French or German, you're on your own. I don't know anything about any languages outside of English and Spanish, and I'm hardly fluent in Spanish as it is. =)

Is there somehow/where we can save this info on AQ itself?

I'm currently thinking of the idea of having my dad (who has lived in the Czech Republic for over 12 years - but is an expat/native English speaker) plant a box for me ...as soon as I can a) think it all through box-wise b) try and explain to him how to hide a box REALLY well and c) I was just thinking the other day that I would need his and/or his wife's (Czech born) help with some box text. Which will all take some effort to explain/make happen and it would be a shame to not save the results somewhere (so I was thinking) Besides the clues of course! Doh!

I was aslo thinking I should share said box text in Czech but wouldn't have a clue where on AQ doing so might be most helpful...

Anyway...

Just an idea....

Hmm..... That might be a good idea. I could add it to the Form Center on Atlas Quest. Anyone that e-mails me a translation of a standardized "This is a letterbox" form could be added to it for all sorts of languages. I'll have to write an English version that people can translate into any language(s) they know. =)
