OWWW Sunday night I smashed my pinky toe into the bathroom door. Its all black and blue, hurts like a you know what every step I take. I can barely get a shoe on. So today it is starting to feel a teeny tiny bit better and what do I do....SMASH it again!!! Right into a chair leg...who put that damn thing there!!! OWWW I called my husband...he is really too busy (it is Chrismas after all in retail) to give my whining much patience...none of my friends are home not that they would care...my daughter said hmmm...can I go watch Diego now??? My dad just laughs at me....

The whole side of my foot is icky looking...oh poor me....

Sorry about whining here, I just figured someone would commiserate with me.....

I would say it sounds broken. If you're up for an afternoon in urgent care, it should probably be looked at. Better to do it NOW before the holiday week when people only go it when they're desperately sick or wounded, and all the really smart medical staff have taken the week off! Odds are they'll look and say "Yep, It's broke" and then tape it to the toe next to it, but I don't know if I'd try taping it myself. Is it possible to mis-set a pinky toe bone?

Sorry - I didn't mean to forget about the sympathy! I'm sure it hurts like he-- and you should pamper yourself for at least a week! ;) No fun at all when there's no one to pat your shoulder.

*pat*pat*pat* There, there. Ice it, Tylenol, and chocolate oughtta do you some good! :)

WEll, you know that they say, smash the other one, and it won't hurt as bad!!!

No, just teasing! I know you are hurting. I am sorry!!! Take 2 aspirin and you will feel better, or, better yet, carve 2 stamps and go letterboxing in the morning (a saying by my daughter!!!!)

Ok thats not what I was looking for....I just wanted to hear oh poor vicki....

I dont have time for a broken toe...the pinky isnt that important is it? I cant break a toe...I drink too much milk...never had a broken bone in my life...

Shouldnt it hurt a lot more if its broken?

cant a regular doctor as opposed to urgent care see it?

I hope that you didn't take that wrong. I was just trying to lighten things up. I have been there and done that. I agree with ArtGekko that you should have it looked at. My guess is that it could be broken also, especially after 2 hard smashes! UNfortunately, there is no magic cure (as much as we would like at times!)

Do you have any good slippers/ shoes that would protect it until it is better? (that you can fit it into). IT seems that when something hurts, it is always the place that gets hit/ smashed again!!!!

Again, working in the medical field, you can see a reg doc, but he won't tell you much other than you already know. Best bet is to tape it up and wear a good shoe/ slipper.

Oh, you poor thing!! To smash it twice must have been miserable. And just when it was feeling better!!!!!

If you don't feel like getting it checked out, just elevate and ice it, eat some cookies, watch Patch Adams, and see if it gets better on its own. If the swelling and discoloration fade, then I would definitely say that the cookies are doing the trick and eat some more. lol Or, even if they're not helping, I would still eat more cookies.

Too bad you're not close to me - I'd bring you some cookies to help get you going. mmm, cookies....

I'm very sorry you did that. I'm all the time whacking that little toe on something too and there's not much that hurts worse.

Unfortunately, with the bruising, yes, it could be broken. Taping it might work unless you've got wierd shaped toes like me where the pinky toe curves and isn't straight.

Best bet is a thick sock, preferably tight-fitting, and a sturdy shoe like Birkenstock sandles or clogs.

Even if you go to a doctor there's not too much they can do for a broken toe.

Fix some cocoa, put your feet up, put an ice pack on your toe and watch a good movie.

Boy I like this group....cookies, chocolate, candy....thats the common denominator here....sweets solve everything huh!!

I feel so loved....sympathy without laughter...at least not that I am hearing!! :-)

I just need to stop moving around...the darn toe is getting in the way of everything now that its got the attention.

and you know the funny thing....i was on my way to the computer to hit refresh to see what new posts were up here on AQ....That'll learn me....

thanks to all!!

Sorry to hear about your ouchie:( I've been there done that so I feel your pain:( Only it was two of my middle toes that kept finding their way into smashing into tables, chairs, anything and everything:( Took about 3 or 4 months for mine to feel better, good thing that was before I found LBing. Otherwise I really could have done damage hiking here and there on them;)LOL

Hang in there, it will feel better:)

Happy Holidays

Oh I'll give you plenty of sympathy! I'm sorry to hear about your foot woes..... Reminds me of a time.......

Two summers ago (2005), my boyfriend and I were down at the beach house and when it was time for him to head back to CT to go back to work, I stood up to walk him out. As we both stood up (we were in chairs facing each other), my bare foot hit his hard plastic/rubber Keen right in the toe! I hit it so hard that it really hurt and I couldn't even walk! My boyfriend and my father both laughed so hard, not only because I had stubbed my pinky toe, but because of my "theatrics" in the pain. (My mom wouldn't laugh, no matter HOW silly I looked) I still couldn't walk the next day.....

They weren't laughing five or six days later when I finally got home from the beach and went to the doctor. I broke my pinky toe and my foot was swollen for four weeks! I had to wear Tevas with socks for four solid weeks since I couldn't get my foot into a shoe! Limping around was bad enough, but going to summer graduate classes at college in Tevas and socks was embarrassing! Reminded me of when I lived in Florida......

If it still hurts a few days from now, I'd strongly recommend getting it x-rayed. :-) Hope you feel better!

You have my sympathy, too! I dropped a student desk on my big toe a few years ago and chipped the bone. It was on registration day and I had gone into a closet to get the desk. I almost fainted from the pain but I knew if I did, no one would be able to find me. I hadn't told anyone where I was going. I just did the old "put you head between your legs" trick until I could walk out of there straight to the office.

I had that whole pinky toe smashing episode on 4th of July weekend. First I smashed it into the toilet at the hotel that we were staying at, then the next day on a chair at home, then a third time on same chair, same day. Ok, I'm a slow learner sometimes. I did get it checked out because I needed a doctor's note for work because I couldn't put a shoe on. NO open toed footwear is allowed where I work. I knew there would be nothing they could do about it except give me my note, but they x-rayed it anyway, said I chipped the bone, taped the little bugger to the other toe and away I went, limping. But I did manage to go out and get me 3 letterboxes the next day!! NOT drive-bys either! Give it a couple of days. If it doesn't start to improve, then seek medical treatment.
