I was wondering when is a newbie not a newbie anymore? When do they become a newban (love that term by the way)? From there when does one officially become a veteran? I was curious if it goes by time or from contributions....can a quick learning newbie (tons of finding, planting, HH etc...just jumping right in to everything) become a veteran faster than someone who moves a little more leisurely or doesn't it matter, it's just how long you've played the game?
Just wondering......

I have been doing this since September. Not long by any means. I have planted two, and have found a bunch. I pipe up on the boards pretty frequently, but still feel very newbie-ish.

I think I personally wont feel so new and will feel more like I really "belong" to the group after I have gone to a gathering. I have met a couple other boxers, but rarely see them here on the boards. I have exchanged emails off list with a few as well. But I think that personal interaction will help me feel less new.

As for an actual timeline and when you are not called a newbie anymore...who knows...
And i havent heard the term newban...is that like the in between stage?

I'm pretty much almost in the same boat as you.
I haven't been here that long either and only have a couple of plants and a bit more finds (I sure like the virtual boxes though :). I would like to go to a gathering sometime but I think I would feel a bit out of place. I'm still not overly confident in knowing enough about letterboxing as a whole yet. I have tried to learn a little bit about everything and I'm taking baby steps.I definitely consider myself a newbie.....I was just wondering when that wears off.
I read the term newban on someone else's post. It means not a newbie not a veteran, I thought it was a cute word.

thanks

I'd say just quit refering to yourself as a newbie. There is no *official* timeline so do as you feel.

On the other side of the scale, when can you call yourself a veteran?

I guess just like not calling yourself a newbie. Whenever it feels right to you.
