Is that what it is???

Off to mark my all time favorite box! What a cool option!

Of course, what if you love them all equally? And you don't want any boxes to get hurt feelings? Oh, the angst...

ok...
I marked mine...
but i kept hoping for a way to do it from the logbook...
like click a little square and then a choice for plater's choice.
I didn't wanna have to edit each box and assign it the icon.

Isn't Ryan marvellous. What a great feature/icon. And I love the graphic he has chosen.

I will have to do more later, I had to poking around to see what Planters Choice was and now I will be late!!

Well done Ryan, I don't know how you keep coming up with all this good stuff.

I'm sure it helps having all these wonderful members who come up with wonderful ideas...
granted...not all ideas are wonderful *grin*...but many, many are! I was particularly thrilled to see this cause it is a spin off of something I asked for along time ago...a section in our profiles where we could list our favorites boxes of our own to suggest to folks. I can see a real use and benefit!

again...Thanks

Are there limits in the programming for this? I don't know that it really matters much, but just wondering if there is a limit, like only one per member, or 10%, or some other way of limiting this label. I personally would put less value in somebody's "planters choice" if every one of that person's boxes had the icon. Then again, I don't really think anybody would do that. I guess I'm just curious.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too, as I was applying the icon to several boxes. It never stopped me by the time I marked the few I wanted to mark, so the question was moot. To me, it only makes sense to use the feature sparingly, but I could see how someone might get the bright idea to mark all of his own boxes. If you just pull up the boxes for an area, rather than the boxes by a placer, you might not notice that the jerk did this and be bamboozled into looking for his boxes thinking they were his favorites.

BTW, the ones I marked with the "Placer's Choice" didn't correspond very well to the ones with Blue Diamonds.

I think the option of the Planter's Choice is one of the better features ever introduced here. It by far bears more meaning to me than the arbitrary blue diamond assignments. Personally, I'd prefer to look for boxes where the planter has decided it offers something different or unique out of their plants over one upon which a blue diamond has been arbitrarily bestowed. I'll probably go through and identify a few of ours based on zones or regions throughout the world where we've planted boxes--or ones that offer something really unique to visitors (like our Tumuli box which gets so few visitors it's bizarre but it's one of the neatest and little known places in that particular region of the country--one of those "who ever knew?" types of places). Personally, I don't care if folks go out to find or ignore our boxes--it's sort of been the learning experience & process behind developing the boxes that was exciting for us. From a maintenance perspective the less traffic the easier they are to maintain. Part of the reason I tend to make the clues a bit more cryptic (or lots of mystery boxes) is to actually limit traffic to the areas. It's up to the more intrepid folks to head off the beaten path to find those boxes. I doubt that the planter's choice icon will really rev up visits to the sites, though--as many will still require homework and an effort to actually get to the spot in which they're hidden. It's just a nice feature. Thanks for adding it.

I love this idea!

I've added one to my celestial elemental box (will it ever have a finder?) and I have a few others that I want to mark as well.

I really like the fact that I can showcase the ones that are my personal faves, either because of the carve, the clue, the placement or whatever made that box a cut above, in my opinion.

Thanks Ryan!

Man no kidding! This is so cool - I think I've wanted this option for awhile without even knowing that I did. Love the icon, but must say for some reason the name "planter's choice" makes me think of peanuts....mmmm

Thanks Ryan!

I love the feature, but must admit I'm not thrilled about the icon. It's pretty, but it doesn't automatically bring to mind the meaning it's supposed to elicit. Perhaps we can just get used to it, but I would have thought that a gold star or a red ribbon or maybe a pink diamond (same as blue diamond only different) would have been more apropos.

Purple diamond or a silver chalice or a big phat exclamation point (or is that an exclamation mark?)... ;) The current icon makes me think it's buried in the ground germinating somewhere...

My logbook is in my backpack, and as far as I know, Ryan has never made any changes to it.

Ryan can only change his website, and then it's for me to decide whether I choose to use it or not.

DebBee, who chooses to use it
