We have a dog that herds hamsters.

Our hamster has escaped from her cage twice. Neither time did we notice it right away. But we wondered why the dog was laying on the floor with her nose in the corner. Then we figured out that she was "herding" the hamster to keep it from getting too far away. The dog never touched or barked at the hamster, just kept it safe until we could catch it and put it back.
For the next couple of days the dog would periodically go over and check the hamster cage to make sure it was still in there.

how cute is that! Most dogs would probably eat the hamster. I think mine would just chase it around and give the poor thing a heart attack!!

I just wish she would do that with letterboxes! We did name her Tupper for a reason...

Our family dog whe I was younger used to herd our eastern box turtle. We had a gate that opened accordian style, and when we took the turtle out and let her roam around the porch we would gate her in. What we didn't realize at first was that she could just fit through one of the openings in the bottom of the gate. Our dog would go over to the porch and whine with his nose down behind her following along until someone came and picked up the turtle and put her back in the porch. It was adorable.
