Would this be taboo?

DH and I have been wanting to plant a box, but due to lack of time and too much going on, we haven't been able get past the "wanting to" stage.
This morning while surfing around AQ, I got an idea. My DD is enrolled in cosmetology school and gets credit toward her grade for each client that she works on, I thought why not plant a "by appointment only" box. You would have to have your haircut by her to get the box, or a clue to the box planted near the school. Although my motive behind this is to give her credit toward her grade, I realize that it would also be drumming up business for the school (BTW, a haircut at the school is only $7.00). Which is why I was wondering if it would be taboo. I have seen boxes listed where you have to go into stores and such and there are boxes planted in fee areas (parks, museums etc.) which is kind of the same thing, right? DH and I paid more than $20 last summer to be the first finders of a LB. I am aware that not everyone would be willing to get a haircut just to get a letterbox, so it wouldn't get many log entries. She is scheduled to graduate next August or September, at which point the box would either be retired or the clues would be changed to make it available to evreyone.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this! I won't be offended if you tell me that it is a bad idea (I get alot of those!! LOL).
Thanks in advance for your input!!

Personally, I think this is a neat idea.
I agree, it is not for everyone. But, I can't think of any letterbox that is! The great thing is, people can choose whether or not they want to find it.
I would give it a try :)

I agree. As long as you spell out the terms clearly in the clue, people can decide whether to go for it or not right from the get go. (Don't forget to include the $ icon.)
Good luck with it!

I don't think you need to worry on this score, most owners of store letterboxes only give permission in the hopes of bringing in more buisiness. Just make it clear a fee is payable.

I think it's a great idea as well. I would do it! As long as it's posted clearly I don't see any problem.
Good luck!

My mom went to a cosmetology school and always used me to "experiment" on. *shaking head* I was young and impressionable at the time, and let me tell you, it made an impression. ;o)
The low was getting third place in a hair-cutting competition of some sort. Humiliating. Just humiliating. =) (That had nothing to do with the school, though.)

Thank you all, who have given your input!
Ryan, That is funny! This would be the reason that I am going to go to the school and have her cut my hair, rather than having her do it at home.... I may have to pay for it, but I know she will be supervised by her instructors!!! LOL

Those instructors may not always help. My mom's got a few "disaster stories" to tell. Not really a lot considering how many hair cuts were going on, but enough to know there's a reason those hair cuts are only $7. ;o) For a simple haircut, though, they'll probably get it done right. =)
Since my mom cuts hair for a living, the idea of actually paying for a haircut just kills me. =) I don't know what I'll do after she kicks the bucket. I might have to grow my hair long or something! Only twice have I been desperate enough to actually PAY for a haircut, though. Once was on the AT when I didn't see my mom for six months (just couldn't go THAT long without the haircut), and a second time I had it cut when I was in Panama because the haircut was only $3 and I figured it would be an adventure to tell wild stories of haircuts in a third-world country. AND, I was going to see my mom in another week, so if it was really screwed up, she could fix it then. =)
So if you ever wonder about why I'm walking around with wild, frizzy hair, you know it's because I haven't seen my mom in a few months. =) If my hair is cut short, I probably saw her fairly recently.

Hey! You're not helping my cause here!!! ;)
I'll keep this in mind, since I never know when I will run into someone who lives clear across the country! LOL

Sure I am! =) People like adventure! They'll be tripping over themselves to see how exciting it really is--and all for just seven bucks! ;o)
It's not like I really *needed* a haircut in Panama for $3 by someone I couldn't communicate well with. (I never learned many cosmetology-related words in Spanish, so it's a weak point for me.) I mostly grunted and pointed to the picture on my passport. It was an ADVENTURE! All for a measly three bucks.
Oh, sure, most people would rather climb Mount Everest or something to get their adventure in, but not everyone has the time or money to do that. But a $7 haircut? Oh, yeah.... There's an adventure that's within everyone's price range and time line. *nodding* =)

Ryan,
Did your mom have a lot of lifesized heads (think of giant Barbie heads) to practice on when she was learning? This reminded me that there is a neighbor that cuts hair and always lines her yard with all the fake human heads with short haircuts for Halloween!

I wouldn't say she had a *lot* of them (they're awfully expensive!), but she had a few. *nodding* Never thought to use them as Halloween decorations, though. =)

Why tell people up front? Where's the fun in that? I suggest you write the clues something along these lines... "Go to xxx (address). Enter front door and locate chair #7. Sit down, close your eyes, and if you wait really still someone will come place the letterbox in your hand. Pay no attention to any snipping noises... that's just to throw the muggles off."
