Well as long as you're gonna go there.....Both my dad and my brother are named Dick (Richard) Long.

My brother says it's been great for business, as no one ever forgets his name. Then again, he had 3 sons but didn't name any of them Dick.

Of course my dad was Richard James, and my brother was Richard Alan, so no 1st, or 2nd, junior/senior business. Someone would call for Dick and my mom would just ask..."do you want Big Dick or Little Dick?"

:)

And there really is a stock car driver here in the Upper Midwest named Dick Trickle! (Library Grrl, The Red Cat or Wisconsin Hiker should be able to verify), or read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Trickle

I grew up hearing his name on the radio as the "headliner" name of sorts in the ads for stock car events in Wisconsin. Never understood why parents would do that, but clearly it has worked for him!

p.s. if we'd had a girl DH wanted to name her Julia Leah. I like them both, but not together. How do you know when to stop? "Julialialia Leah." Or too much like Julia Goolia in The Wedding Singer

This reminded me that the owner of our local Toyota dealership is named Richard Head. That had to be really bad in school.... What were his parents thinking???

I used to work for a guy named Rusty Key - the "Rusty" was a nickname for his middle name - he was the III. Dad and Grandpa were not called Rusty....... Rusty was married to Kay - who went by - you guessed it - Kay Key. They didn't have children when I knew them, but I've often wondered...... ;-))

As a medical professional, I've seen lots of names. I can't give full names (privacy act), but here are some partial names that are absolutely real:
Female--pronounced fah-MAH-lee. I had always heard the story about the woman who said they had already named her baby for her when asked for the baby's name. Never thought the poor kid would show up as a grown woman at a clinic that I worked at.

Jawrawna--she was a frequent ER patient when I worked in Greensboro.

Ying Yang--enough said. Okay, so without other info a name isn't considered a privacy violation. I won't say where I met this patient.

There are people with the last name of Dumbbell. Now why do you change your last name to his when that's his last name? Her answer: "young, stupid and in love."

I can't remember anymore really good ones right now.

I did the loan of a person by the name of Alternate Tarzan. I couldn't figure out if he was actually given that name by his parents or changed it later.

There was also the borrower whose last name was Death.

No, she had no clue what the fuss was about. We would all be cracking up in the background but my mom was a real lady. Or does a lady just pretend she doesn't know what all the fuss is about? :)

Dick Trickle IS a real race car driver! In junior high our boys gym teacher was named Mr. Tinkle. I worked in an office when I was young and the names, Theenda and Trael, are memorable. Both were the last in a long line of children. Not sure if this is an urban legend, but Dad said there was a story going around the hospital that somewhere a new mother (had so many children she ran out of names) asked the staff what she should name this new bundle of joy. One nurse or doctor (?) said what about Placenta? "Hmmm," she said, "that's a pretty name." If this is true, I sure hope the hospital recorder would not accept that on the birth certificate, but who knows?

Here's another one ... Candy Johnson married Mr. Barr and now she's Candy Barr.

In college my husband worked in an after school program where there was a family who desperately wanted a boy and absolutely wanted to name him Clifford. When it was a girl, they reversed the name and called her Droffil-C. Their second child was to be Rick, but when it was another girl, they called her Sherrick.

I went to high school with a girl named Crystal Ball. She was too ditzy to notice the jokes.
Oh...and there was Tin Fong Ho; who we called Tin Foil Ho.
And Lon Dong; who we called Long Dong Silver.

Hey, I had a boss named Long Dong. I was too naive to understand the jokes that the guys would tell. They'd have to explain them, that gave them even more enjoyment, seeing my face get red.

I teased my friends that I was going to name my daughter Summer Thyme. I pretended I was serious. But, my DH got to pick a middle name, it's his mother's middle name, May.

Janet, Blooming Flowers (obviously, Flowers being our last name)

As a teacher, I see dozens of "what were you THINKING" names every year.

Beating all others, however, was my dear, dear neighbor Rain Lightning McCloud.

This thread has been hilarious. A friend of my parents maiden name was Horney. When she married she kept her last name. We always wondered why.

That is funny!! We do the same thing at work. I work at a PD and we have a Detective "Dick" and a School Resource Officer "Dick", Father and Son, so when officers call in and ask for Dick G. we ask them if they want BIG Dick or Little Dick....
