Quote Luckily, Turtle Mc Q is a low maintance kind of planner. No clue packets, rafflesgames, cooties or other such nonsense for T McQ.

Whoa, nonsense? Hey, we RESEMBLE that nonsense around WNY! LOL

Actually, we realized that so few people end up in the middle of Rochester and Buffalo for anything that making clues as easy as possible to find was our best bet for customer satisfaction. The raffle just helps us recoop the cost of the pavillion (and that cup of coffee we wanted to buy SOOO bad for this holiday....woo hoo!).

Yeah, I hear ya. It's expensive doing a winter event too because you can't just rent an outdoor pavilion. People get cranky and insist upon having such niceties as heat and a warm dry place to put their coats, mittens, hats, scarves, etc...

The first year at Sun I rented a $75 room and we were at capacity with 55 people. All expenses, including the clue booklets and the great raffle and door prizes were covered by raffle ticket sales and donations. This year we had 55 people signed up by AUGUST! So I have rented a much bigger place, which has capacity for 140 seated/200 total. It's also a lodge where dogs ( well behaved) are allowed to be inside. Of course, this costs even more money ( $195) which I have paid in full. Now I am just praying we sell enough raffle tickets or get enough donations to cover this added cost. And to think I used to go the Virgin Islands in mid-February. :)

I feel your pain! That's why we either do them in our backyard or in our house when we can...just can't afford the other stuff. I HAVE noticed, though, that some of these little towns have little parks with pavillions (which we've used) and fire halls...might need to look into one of those one day.

Yeah, I have checked every firehallm beer gardenm rec room, etc that is near and far in the CNY area, and to be honest, the Onondaga County Parks have the most reasonable prices out there. $195 sounds like a lot, and it is, but that is for use of the ENTIRE lodge all to ourselves, a MASSIVE fireplace with all the firewood we want, plenty of FREE parking, use of the surrounding trails with nary a permit requirement in sight ( unlike the NY STATE Park system), and exclusive use of the entire kitchen and dining services and a clean up crew and free garbage disposal service. None of those private places could come close to beating that price and services. *sigh* I guess if you are going to party on this scale..you need to put up. So make sure y'all buy a raffle ticket or two!

I am sure this was probably mentioned already (I'm too lazy to search) but, where and when is your gathering?
