Sorry about that "down for maintenance" error some of you might have seen as it was displayed in error. =) I'm working on a more formalized method of taking AQ down for upgrades and maintenance and stuff, and I plan to try it out tonight. Of course, to prepare for the update tonight, I also needed to get the "down for maintenance" code onto the live site. And, oops, inadvertently turned it on!

Anyhow..... I got the code uploaded. It's currently set to display a warning that the site will be down for maintenance two hours before it goes down. And five minutes before the site goes down, the message also warns to finish up what you're working on. (Long, elaborate clues or posts, for instance, either need to be saved soon or lost forever!)

And, at the designated time, you'll just see a generic page (in the default colors) about an upgrade in progress. Well, at least if the server is actually running. If I need to do a reboot or turn the server off for short periods of time, you'll just get a "can't connect to AQ" error. Usually the server is still running when I'm making updates, though. Just that the features on the site may not work, so it'll display a generic page about the upgrade in progress.

There is, of course, a back door for me to get past that page and into the heart of AQ to test upgraded features and make sure everything is working as expected before officially opening the site back up again.

Right now, I have AQ set to self-destruct, as it were, at midnight tonight. (Pacific Standard Time)

This sounds like a good time to print out some of those virtuals I've been meaning to get done. That way I won't miss AQ so much, until you can get it back up and running smoothly.

I have got the new Boxers and briefs up in a sperate tab, ready for when AQ goes down. I am hoping that should still be working providing I don't try to use the links. I've locked up the doors and am putting up the upgrades now. Nothing exciting--the only real difference you should see is that you'll be able to change preferences again.
