I answered my own question. Hey, Dixie, check it out!

Barley's Taproom and the 1906 Massacre
By Sarah Harrison
Barley's Taproom on Biltmore Ave. in Asheville has been the site of paranormal activity, including footsteps, voices,
apparitions, and an elevator that operated by itself. On November 13, 1906, Will Harris killed five people, including two
police officers, and injured more before being gunned down himself. This happened in the area of what is now Barley's
Taproom and Eagle St. The town gallows once stood close to where Barley's now stands.

Ghosts and mysterious sounds!!! Woo Hoo!!

Hmmm... don't know if that is a good thing to expose them to all us crazies... but with any luck it will be contagious! ;)

The 7 I'm sending have nothing to do with haunting so I say, Go for it!

Anyone considering hunting the Biltmore Legerdemaine stamp while up there? I missed it once and never thought I'd get another try, but if the rates are discounted that month, well, I may have another opportunity.

I've got that one already, but I wouldn't mind paying a visit and bowing before it again. There are also a couple of new ones out there I haven't gotten yet.

I'd go with you.

You coming by yourself? You'd be welcome at our place but we wouldn't have room for the whole Wolf pack. Though my kids would love it if we did.

On second thought, given a few sleeping bags on your part... We've got a queen-size inflatable mattress... You might be sleeping in a cool-ish basement room but we've got lots of blankets.

Check LbNA Western NC.

America's Castle (Biltmore #4 I think). Mountain Scorpia planted it but it was carved by Legerdemain.

Asheville Gathering is Jan. 6 (Twelfth Night/Epiphany). It's listed under the Events. Be great to see you if you can make it.

I'm still considering options. If I come alone I intend to attempt to crash someone's house (you may be sorry you offered-- MUHAHAHA!-- seriously, a very nice offer-- thanks!), but with the kids it's just too much for anyone so we'd need to find some place else to stay. Now if I dump the kids on my mother for Saturday night (if she can get Saturday off), then possibly I'd come with my husband (if he can get Saturday off) and then he would be hunting a little romantic room some where...

I wouldn't want to paying Biltmore prices for a stamp you already got!

I might be able to do an associated box, near downtown, not in downtown..... I need to review my information, so it's a secret for now..... ;-))

I've signed myself and the Foxlets up, but don't know how long we can stay - this might need to be a drive by gather for us......... :-P......... might can rearrange some things though.....

Well, I'm still up to going with you since there are some there that I haven't gotten.

As long as you're cootie-free (humph, what's the chance of that...) you are more than welcome to crash at our house, should the need arise.

Okay for those of us who are new to this kind of thing what does the theme have to do with the gathering and what are we suppose to do?

I'm very lost...

Jan. 6 is Epiphany. Some groups/churches celebrate this as the day the Wise Men got to Bethlehem to see Baby Jesus. Since the Wise Men are also known as the Three Kings, you get the wearing of crowns for this. There may be an event stamp to fit the theme, but the theme usually has little meaning for what goes on at a gathering. People just get together to chat and get to know each other "offline". Putting faces with trailnames, if you like.

The crowns will make it more festive but I'm sure Mountain Scorpia would say come on anyway whether you've got a crown or not.

I've already offered my guide/protection services. Maybe you should hope for a little snow. We all know how that is very likely to slow Mama down! ;-)

I may not do mountain roads (being from the land of flat), but snow does NOT slow me down (I grew up trudging through snow in Michigan with the additional weight of 10 layers of clothes).

I will NOT, however, be hoping for snow, though the cubs would probably love it (a rare treat from them-- bad flashbacks for me!).

Well since you kidnapped CDQ at the last gathering, maybe we can kidnap you for this one. Don't know that Bith is planning to join us, so it would just be me and da queen! You are welcome to join us.
And we don't do the marathon hiking thing (I'm no Wolf mama).

I might be doing Twelfth Night alone...and without my MoJo.
I thought about trying to get Mikey and my Bubba to come too but no since in boring them to tears or embarrassing them with my letterboxing addiction ;) I think I will have enough to keep me busy anyways.

Hello LBers in NC,
The word "Asheville" jumped out at me from the message board list and I just have a touristy question for y'all in NC...have you gone to tour the Biltmore Estate? I would just love to come and see it someday. Do you get to see alot of the inside? or just a few of the major rooms? And, most importantly :)...are there any letterboxes nearby?

Thanks,

NeNe from Washington (state)
