I don't know if I captured enough code to make this fancy, but the sentiment should come through. Here's wishing everyone in Letterboxing Land moist white meat, crispy skin, and stuffing like my daddy used to make.

I don't cook a whole lot but for Thanksgiving...
I can't resist. I cook waaaaay too much really.
I wish you were here too.
instead of laying around being lazy after the feast...we could go out to the haunted tunnel and you could do some boxing :)
or not...if you'd rather watch the games and nap
I like that too.

AND FROM THE UK, HAPPY THANKSGIVING WISHES TO ALL

Aww, Dixie beat me to it. I thought being ahead of you time wise I would be able to get my good wishes in first.

You should still be in bed Dixie :-)

Everyone is making me very hungery with all your talk of the lovely food you have ready. I have to wait until Christmas before there is any special food to be had.

We have Harvest Festival, which is apparently the origins of Thanksgiving. However for us Harvest Festival is earlier in the autumn (Sept/October), and is not very special. No nice food in the home, just taking some food offerings to Church - for those who go.

I've never tried Pumpkin Pie, anyone got a spare slice to offer? I use Pumpkin in soups, and pasta dishes, but I've never used it in a pudding recipe. I find it hard to imagine sweet.

And I have gate-crashed the party only to find everyone left without waiting for me.

Judging from that weary sentence you really need to. You are jumbling your tenses.

Any left overs? A crumb or two?

Let me second YT's sentiments, if there are any of you who can tear yourselves away from family and food. Have a great time and hope you don't suffer from indigestion.

Hi Diltian Martian, it's you and me today!

Fancy a bit of gruel? They've all gone off eating fancy food and not left a crumb in sight :-(

After the gruel we could sit in a corner and carve - a bit of a UK Mini-Meet.

Mind you, if any Americans turn up they would be welcome to a bit of gruel. Might be just what they need after all that rich food, not to mention the drink. I bet drinking is going on too. Yes, bound to be drinking.

I've got some water, would you like some? It's tap water mind you, couldn't run to the bottled stuff.

Let's party here! We've got some curly sandwiches left over from a meeting yesterday and a packet of Rich Tea biscuits.

I'll hold on the water thanks, I've made a cup of tea to have with my lunch. Hopefully someone will buy some milk at lunchtime or it'll be a dry time. Maybe I should sneak out and try milking one of the cows in the field behind :-)

Some of us Yanks are still around! I got up early and decided to check the computer before the kids and hubby get up. Also, I don't have to cook - my MIL does - I'm not allowed. They all like things the same way they've been doing them for the past 50+ years........ If I was allowed to cook, I'd do something crazy like fix trout for dinner (instead of turkey), because my 7 yo doesn't like poultry. Then it would go downhill from there.

As it is, I'm making a veg dish I know no one will eat (it's not very traditional ;-)) and a jello salad that my kids will eat because it has marshmellows in it ;-))

Then around this place, since we have a Christmas tree farm, it's Christmas time!!! Actually, we have to work on making a bunch of wreaths today and hubby requested my help. Not sure why, I'm a horrible wreath maker - they come out lopsided, and have holes in them. Maybe he's going to have me cut the greenery, while he puts the wreaths together - if I can be trusted to do that ;-))

At some point this weekend, we are going letterboxing, probably Saturday - hopefully the weather will hold!

YT, I can scrounge up a recipe for a pumpkin pie (though I know you are perfectly capable of googling one ;-)) and I'll even make sure it's traditional and not something crazy like I'd do ;-))

DM, good luck with that cow... (??!!) let us know how that turns out ;-)) and what are curly sandwiches? I'm envisioning something that's been sitting out so long that the bread is dry and starting to curl - I hope I'm wrong, for your sake...!!!

Hey! I'm on my way to our family feast over here.

I just have to know ... what are curly sandwiches? I'm guessing it's not "rancid and dried out" left-overs from days past.

And your "dry" time, is that used only with reference to the lack of milk? We have "dry towns" here and that means liquor is not sold or *consumed (wink, wink)* in them.

Unfortunately you are right about the sandwiches :-( We couldn't eat them yesterday so we covered them in clingfilm and put them in the fridge. Funny how no-one has dared to try one yet today!!!

The cows are safe for now!! I've tasked my assistant to go to the shop on the way back from his lunchtime visit to the gym.

I like the idea of marshmallows in jelly, though I might have to put some aside for myself as the children would eat the lot.

Oh dear, that sounds scary. Maybe your assistant could pick up a loaf of bread too, and you could transfer the guts of the sandwich to new bread..... but I'm lazy, I'd probably just microwave them for a bit.....

Now that is scary, I think I will stick with the gruel thanks.

Yes, I think DM meant dry as in parched. We don't have dry towns here that I know off. Except in the welshish part of Wales on a Sunday, even then it is not really dry - just the pubs don't open on a Sunday.

Oh great DM, things are looking up, I could do with an assistant like that. Is he any good at sweeping up eraser shavings?

Thanks for the good wishes from the other side of the great pond! I decided to check in at AQ before starting the great cooking and cleaning extravaganza and it's nice that folks are still checking in. Of course, it gives me an excellent incentive for procrastination.... ;-)

Have a lovely evening over in the UK, and Happy Thanksgiving to all here in the US!

Okay -- must....go.....cook....now!

A letterboxer after my own heart :-) Though lately I find it better to letterbox before I eat. Once I have eaten, napping tends to take over.

Didn't you ever see Charles Dickens 'Oliver'?

Mostly water, with a few oats or bread sops thrown in if you are lucky, dolled out by the half spoonful.

But don't worry about me Dixie. I did very well. Diltian Martian came along with a few curled up sandwiches, and we had a good time in the corner :-D, inspite of Mama Fox trying to give us food poisoning :-(

gruel would be a very thin oatmeal...like when the kettle slips and you get twice the water in your instant. or cream of wheat, any hot cereal, but thinner...watered down on purpose to make it stretch further.

means you're poor...or in their context, poor-little-picked-on-me...because we get an extra feast. and people wonder why so many americans have such Reubenesque figures.

Yes but we had a feast on Bonfire Night, just a different type and I can match a Reubenesque figure any day unfortunately.

I must say you have all been quite chatty today. I thought I would be talking to myself.
