Board: Stamp Carving and Mounting

First, let me say I am a gouge carver. Pretty much the only tool I use is the Staedtler #1v.
After many comments on how it is like MasterCarve, and not just because of the sleeve, I decided to try Moo Carve.

The Moo Carve when compared to the MasterCarve is slightly thicker than the already thick MasterCarve. Mounting might not be necessary. Also unlike MasterCarve, Moo Carve is kind of a dull gray color.

As for getting an image on the block, I created an image on paper with pencil and transferred it using the pencil transfer method. It worked just fine.

Cutting through the Moo Carve is as easy as cutting the MasterCarve. The gouge quickly carved through the rubber. One thing I did notice inside the crevices were crumbles. When trying to clean them out, it crumbled more. Some of it was like dust. I included a couple pics of a chunk I tested out by rubbing the smooth side and it crumbles too and yes there is a picture of the mess. Unfortunately I was unable to get a good pic of the text that said, "Moo Carve does not crumble or break apart."

With all that said, I am still going to test the stamp out in a letterbox eventually to see how it holds up. The image turned out fine. I think I will include a stamp pad with the instructions not to clean the image off because I think cleaning the stamp will do more harm than good.

So, yes, it is similar to MasterCarve in how easy it carves and packaging, but it seems worse than MasterCarve. Maybe it would work for an event stamp carving as well and I do hope this will hold up out in the world. The price for a small 2" by 2" block at Hobby Lobby is $2 for those still curious to try it out themselves.

Thanks for this information and for the comparison, koalacat. That's enough for me to know I won't be buying any and so I appreciate that. I'm a die-hard PZKut loyalist, but every now and then I have had to go buy something else in an emergency.

I also think your idea of providing the ink pad so no cleaning is required is a very good one!

Hugs!!

Thanks, I was really curious when people were comparing it to MasterCarve that I had to try it. Never tried the Speedy Cut, so I don't know how this is in comparison to that, to see if it's better than that or the same. Hopefully this stamp holds up.
