That article had one line that I think is particular relevant: The parks will remain open for use, but not be maintained.

So it looks like you can still letterbox in the parks. But if you have to pee, you'll be doing it behind a bush instead of a restroom. Much ado about nothing if you ask me. ;o)

According to the article Queen Mother posted:
The parks will remain open for use, but not be maintained.

Of course, it then says that playgrounds will be fenced, which cuts me off from boxing at them. I need something for DH and baby to do while I hunt... :-) Guess I'll focus on boxes in them for before December.

OK, this article makes it sound a lot less locked-up-tight than the Times article... like there would still be access to many of the boxes on trails. The lack of a parking lot could be awkward in a couple of those parks, but at least this makes it sound like access is still there.

it also says gates will be locked....does that mean no access to the parking lots or what?

Unless maybe you're the tree?

I had a "watercooler" conversation today at work about the Park closures and someone made an interesting observation about the parks that are being closed. The parks that are being closed are predominantly located in areas that are currently being voted on for annexation. Politics at work?

Thus speaks a man who can pee easily anywhere!

Not necessarily much ado about nothing for women!

Or the letterbox near the tree. I went to a park for an 11 box series, not realizing the bathrooms were closed for the winter. I narrowly missed the box that I had not yet found and didn't realize was under the tree. Now I read the clues ahead of time in a series before tinkling to make sure I am well clear of the box.

They did that in CT about ten years ago and all the trails remained open. It was just the facilities that were closed, including the parking areas for those facilities. But you could just park outside and go hiking in the park.

Especially with parks where the parking lots will be inaccessible, this may actually make LBing in the parks much easier: I once sat waiting for about an hour before replacing a box since so many people kept wandering to the area to admire the view of the ocean and islands. Silly people, wanting to use a park to enjoy nature instead of hunting boxes... sheesh.
