what does wassa mean? no, seriously.

No, Wassa! No! You are NOT to add Wassa to the glossary! *stern look* This is an alter ego, isn't it? A scheme to get yourself into the glossary. It won't work, I tell you! It won't work! =)

you were being serious, and he's nearly incapable of same.

"wassa" is a shortened form of the trailname "wassamatta_u", one of our more colorful characters here on AQ.

the trailname is an intentional (or so he says) misspelling of the fictional institution of higher learning, "Wossamotta University". You're on your own to research and discover the origins of that, but I will say there is a reason he is occasionally referred to by the moniker of "moose".

I refer to him as my greatest fan.

... can also be used in the contractive form ...

For example: while hunting for a letterbox, a mountain lion crosses a boxer's path and trees him. The proper greeting would be Wass'up!?!

Ah, I knew this was going to lead to some divergent answers. I kinda liked the "These clues are bad-- son of a wassa" explanation better, though.

In fact, I think adding it to the glossary is a superb idea. In fact, I had checked there before posting!

The first time I had heard the word in question was when I posted the following thread: http://www.atlasquest.com/boards/messages.html?gMsgId=358127;gThreadId=50651 -- the first reply. I took it as an exclamation :). Oops.

Planter is a son of a wassa!"

Careful Nephew! You are starting to tread on those that may be legitimate or not.

"wassamatta_u"

interesting.......I always thought it was a "street slang" version of "what's the matter with you?"

That's what I thought- recalling the funny old song "wassamatta you? Why you looka so sad? Ah, shadduppa ya face" ..but had to research his name to get his PT for an event and turns out.. it is a reference to the Rocky & Bullwinkle cartton. The moose's alma mater is Wassamatta U as seen on his sweatshirt. hence all the moose references.

See, now there is a serious answer to a serious question.
