I want to know that when I vote for
Patches on AQ
My vote will count, I will not need
To quibble and argue.
If Green Tortuga cannot guarantee
The vote is fair
Perhaps Wassa can intervene
With technological flare.

I LOVE cookies, but I don't know much about computers. Grinch (Susie) just voted; and it went fine.

Gee, it is on Pepe's blog. Wonder if it is going to be rigged like the New Boxer's patch was?

we both have the same IP address, we're on the same home wireless network.

It's probably based on the IP address. That's pretty much the only way a remote server can tell the difference between computers. Someone mentioned cookies, but as far as voting goes, it's not ideal since it would allow people to keep deleting the cookies on their browser and voting over and over again. Or even vote from multiple browsers on the same computer.

So such voting schemes typically rely on the IP address of a computer being unique.

As the old saying goes, though, vote early and often. A lot of those polling systems will let you vote once each day. ;o) I don't know if this particular one would allow it, but it might be worth a shot if you're really gung-ho about getting your vote(s) to count.

Gee, it is on Pepe's blog. Wonder if it is going to be rigged like the New Boxer's patch was?

I doubt it was deliberately rigged, but all polls are rigged to some degree or another.

For instance, in this case, unless there was a rock solid winner, I'd take the top two or three results from this round of polling and have a run-off. That's what I'd do, so nobody feels like their vote was "wasted" on a patch that might have been trailing in the first round of voting.

But one could say I was trying to rig the voting by doing so. Perhaps accuse me of not liking the patch that won the first round, so I planned the second round to give my favorite patch another shot at the title. Or someone else could say the voting was rigged because there isn't a run-off. *shrug*

I wouldn't put much stock in someone trying to rig the vote, though, particularly The Pepe. He might have had an particularly acute interest in the New Boxer's patch since he runs the New Boxer's board, but I doubt he has anything riding on the outcome of this particular vote.
