While doing box maintenance!

So I did a bit more box maintenance again yesterday and got two chuckles from one box that WAS still alive and well! There is a geocache less than 2 feet from my letterbox and it seems no matter HOW I try to stress my box is not the geocache, I get a ton (seriousl---easily 50 finds) in the logbook from geocachers! My heart sank when I heard the jingle of trinkets and saw from the clear bottom what was making that noise! There are 11 trinkets inside and I didn't even open the box until I got home knowing my stamp would need to be recarved AGAIN.

NOPE!!! This time it was still there?! =D Happy-happy! As I read through all of the entries---here's the one that made me smile!

Found on accident while my brother was peeing in the forest! --Michelle, Mark, Steve August 10, 2008

She left her email address too! lol

I wonder which one is her brother?! =D

And then because of the trinkets...they went and found this really cool metal cross (never seen one like it) to leave in the box because that's what they thought they were supposed to do?! How cool is that!

Do not exit the ride until it comes to a complete stop!! =D

This is the greatest explanation ever. Far better than "I was hunting a geocache and found your box by mistake"
Thanks for the laugh. :)

Snort! Reminds me of a box I found by accident--peeing in the forest! The clues were somewhat vague, and TMD and I found a box--she took it back to the car to begin stamping in while I took a detour. Imagine my surprise when I nearly peed on a pouch! She had a geocache! I did email the planter and let them know there could be confusion.

So, how are those Hocking Hills boxes TT? I am about a month away from my annual getaway with Hubby--almost time to start planning....

I have to say, Hubby (The elusive sleeping giant) is not a big letterboxer, but he truly enjoys seeing the carving you all do over there.

Mama Stork, pining for the woods and hot tub....

Blonde Joke and I stopped at McArthur for a box on our way home from the SOHT. So we park at the same time another car stopped. She was taking pictures and he was watching his GPS. So I said "Hi, are you geocaching?" And that started the conversation with the couple from Toronto. Blonde Joke retreived the box when they weren't looking. They were VERY interested finding out about LBing after they saw the wonderful stamp Pioneer Spirit had carved. And we all went on our merry ways. The end.

LOL!!! Aren't you glad it didn't read..............accidently found while my brother was peeing on the box!!!!! :-) That is a great entry. Thanks for the chuckle. And yes, how about those Hocking Hills Boxes. Tom and I are coming up on our 20th anniversary.....and we do a letterboxing weekend. We're trying to determine where to go. I think 3 years have been at Hocking Hills. Are there any boxes left for us to find?

MS---things are slowly getting back to good down there. I was down there again yesterday and will probably head out again in a bit. There are plenty that are back in order of mine---plus Safari Man's are good as far as I know. I've checked on a few of his too and PS and a few other must haves.

What area of Hocking Hills are you staying closest to?? Cedar Falls, Old Man's Cave, Conkles Hollow, Ash Cave...etc? Also....send me your snail mail address to my AQ mail and I will send you the map that I drew. Their OLD map was awesome. I do NOT know why they changed it so I recreated a crude hand drawn map trying to replicate it. Hocking Hills is huge so this helps avoid wasting 20-30 or even 40 minutes of driving from place to place if you aren't careful.

BE SURE you have a good amount of gas just before** you head into the hills. I can't tell you how MANY folks I heard yesterday (the park is packed with the leaves turning) saying they were really stressed about finding a gas station!!!

Thanks for the offer of a map TT, I'll take you up on it! I am sure I have an old map around, but.....

I try to pick boxes that take us to new places and are relatively easy hikes--TESG has got knee issues so.... I'll look and see where i can get the most boxes for my buck, with hubby in tow. We have discovered some wonderful places this way--one of my favorites is your Rocky Boots series--truly appreciated the parking advice you gave on that one!! Maybe Cedar Falls this year...it isn't a boxing weekend per se, so I never need to do excessive planning for it.

I do appreciate the reminder about gas though! We've never had an issue, but I think that is because we usually don't have time to fill up before we leave, so tend to fill up just before Columbus, lol.

Oh---sorry MS. I didn't see this post before I read your email. Cedar Falls has several boxes away from the major attraction. In other words, what you could do is go down into Cedar Falls OR just look from the rim of the parking lot?! =D Then head off on the upper trail at the far end of the parking lot for flat hiking to several boxes that Brenda just went with me to check on. That would be the easiest hiking and easiest on the knees!

Sorry---one more thought. Since Hocking Hills is packed right now, this trail away from the actual Cedar Falls but off that parking lot would be good since most folks don't go that way at all.

Ash Cave is definitely worth taking a peek but getting PS's and Knit Wit's box right there at the cave might be a big risk. Right there in the cave can easily have 200 people all standing there at the bottom---let alone those who are willing to go UP THOSE STAIRS to the upper rim! =D The sidewalk from the parking lot takes you right--to the cave now. Which was not there in 2004.

I think I have the Ash Cave boxes--we got 4 or so last year there. We typically go late enough in the season that the crowds are manageable.

We still have a month, and it will depend on how TESG's knee is doing at that point.

Well, I need to get back to cleaning my house--have high hope sof actually going out on a date with my husband for our anniversary this weekend, but if I am goign to get a sitter, need a cleaner house! IF anyone is in the SW OHio area, I woudl suggest stopping at Bullwinkle's Restaraunt at 1_75 Exit 32 for some decent ribs and a great band 8-12. It is a kid friendly place , but we're going without the munchkins so we can stay as long as we want!! (Yes, shameless plug for the band Farewell Fisher)

you laugh, but i think BPD has also found at least one dismembered box thru his call of nature.

saved it from further mangling and reinstalled it. believe it was one of franz's boxes in newtown

and he says that he did NOT pee ON the box.

NOt true!!! This is a great map! I haven't gotten to use it yet, but I've spent enough time in the HOcking Hills that I know it is going to be great when I do...don't sell yourself short, ma'am!

Thanks for your kind words about the map! Compared to google maps and being able to click on corresponding pics these days, mine has no bells, no whistles and definitely no bling but hopefully it will get 'ya there! =D
