Yep- the wild world of letterboxing has introduced me to many many firsts in my life: first to finds, my first hitch-hiker (non human) first cootie, first exchange with another letterboxer... and now I have another first to mark the date with.....

First time I've encountered a nudist on the trail!

Yep- there I was with three kids and a dog- trying to re-hide a box when one of the kids goes, "Muggle coming!". So I'm all nonchalant, getting into my pack, ostentatiously passing the water bottle around (Yep, don't mind us, having an innocent little water break here!) when the muggle hove into view around the curve in the path--- starkers. WEll- he WAS wearing a baseball cap. I cracked up and ask whether it was a lifestyle choice or if he'd lost a bet. He very matter of factly stated he was a life long nudist and then marched past us and off into the distance. My kids were stunned. We had a nice long talk about lifestyle choices but consensus in the elementary school set was that the guy was nuts. Ha!

At that moment... not so much!

So we came up from the rural parts of Ohio to Columbus in the spring of 1975 to attend the Latin convention at Mershon auditorium with the senior class. (That's Latin as in Et tu Brute, as in junior classical league.)
So somewhere around 15th avenue and High street this nekid guy with hat, sunglasses and a scarf around his neck jumps out of a car and runs into a barber shop and then runs out with a hairdryer in his hand.

There was a sign in the window 'Free hairdryer to any streaker who comes in here'.

Huh.......that's random. I wonder what drives a person to...ummm....doing that kinda thing. I can honestly say that I have never felt the need to do that. Maybe it's just me.......

That is the most hilarious story I have ever heard.. My son would have died right there on the spot.." O MY, MOM,MOM, that guy is naked... How can he walk around naked?? I say that with my son coming home everyday, 5 minutes in, and he is down to his underwear.. I don't think that would fly here in GA. MY kids think less clothes is better...( they get that from their dad) I met him when I was 12 and he always ran around in his underwear....You made me laugh sooo hard..

We have a much smaller version up here in Ontario - The Classics Conference. About 500 kids, three days. But from what I've heard it's nothing like JCL.

Ahhhh, nakie time...it was commonplace at the Pasta Mom home a few years ago...when all the kids were little. The oldest two would take their baths and then enjoy their nakie time afterwards. Of course, the best was when the stood right in the front door in all their nakie glory (ages 2 &4) watching the new kids on the street playing basketball. The nakies were girls...the new kids were boys. The boys took off into the house more than a little freaked out (their parents told us the next day)! HA!

Well- I guess our family is more on the comfortable-with-nudity side of the spectrum than most so my kids weren't freaked at all- just a little confused as to the context. We've gone to clothing optional hot springs, my youngest has been to the Oregon Country Fair (more naked breasts per-capita than not) and no one bats an eye about moms nursing where ever and when ever they need to. They asked what a "nudist" was and why someone would be one and I told them that some people really enjoy the feeling of being naked, some don't believe that the government or society should dictate when and where they can enjoy that freedom but most have enough sense to keep their enjoyment private so as not to have to explain themselves or field angry/offended comments from others. My youngest took the stance of "I want to be a nudist!" (not a far stretch for him, admittedly) and my oldest was more of the "I like clothes, they keep me warm!" school of thought, not surprising since he doesn't have a spare scrap of fat to keep him warm. The third kid with us (a friend, and his first time letterboxing) was mostly just trying to fathom why- he kept looking up the trail and asking over and over "WHY doesn't that guy have clothes on?" His mom will probably never let him go hiking with us again! LOL

The context was a little odd- this wasn't exactly a remote trail- it was part of a series of trails that edge the south side of town and are accessible from a residential neighborhood. We didnt' see a lot of people on the trail- maybe that's why the naked ones stand out more. ha.

And MO5- I'm pretty sure he was wearing shoes. Yep. Almost positive. ahem. (was desperately trying to maintain eye contact and not let my glance stray...downwards!)

LMAOROLFPIMP!!!!!!!! This reminds me of a time some girlfriends, Jack and I were walking downtown (ahem---Bar hopping) and we came across this young guy completely naked, except for shoes holding his undies over his manly parts running down the street. I busted up laughing then asked him if he needed any help. I ended letting him use my cell phone to call a friend to come get him. I STILL don't understand why he was nakie and WHY he didn't just put his underwear back on! LOL!

Oh yeah did I mention we took pictures with him too! LOL!!

I live on 73 wooded acres, and have been known to go a full week without putting on any clothes. It's not because I'm weird on anything, there's just nobody out here to see me anyway, why bother? Sometimes I even make it to the mailbox without putting anything on, but I always check to see if the coast is clear first.

Now, I've got a brother who most definitely is weird. He's been arrested numerous times for various charges that all boil down to being nekkid in public, sometimes on a deserted island (once a Coast Guard vessel had to use binoculars to gather "evidence"), but also sometimes protesting outside a courthouse or whatnot. I don't think he's actually ever been convicted, but not for lack of trying. Fortunately, for the past few years he's spent most of his free time protesting George W. Bush rather than the lack of freedom of expression, and there's a lot more people on his side when protesting Bush. After next January, maybe he'll go back to wiggling his junk in public for fun.

I found myself a naked hiker while looking for letterboxes on the Denny Creek trail east of Seattle a number of years back. That was my first (and to date, only) experience finding a naked hiker where I wouldn't have expected to see one. (I've seen a number of them near clothing optional hot springs and even joined in the nakedness there, but I don't think clothing optional hot springs count as "unexpected.")

But be warned! The first day of summer is Hike Naked Day, and you'll be much more likely to find a naked hiker on that day than any other day of the year. I've met several people who claim to have hiked naked on that day. =)

A 19-year-old Mount Gilead man was charged with persistent disorderly conduct after he was allegedly found on the Mount Vernon Nazarene University campus with no clothes on. According to the report, the man was detained by campus security and refused to speak or identify himself to investigating officers. He was transported to Knox County Jail.

The office gossip (on campus) is that he did have a backpack with him... :-D
