My son is at the age where he talks about when he can 'marry me.' Telling him I am already married to Daddy doesn't sway him. Today he said "Mommy- I am going to marry you AND Elizabeth."
Elizabeth?!
I prodded him for more info...
You mean Ethan's sister?
Yes, I sit next to her everyday.
You like her?
Yes. (he whispered this part in my ear) Because I am in love with her.
[What the?!]
Why do you like her?
Because she is beautiful and wears a ribbon in her hair.
She is Illuminating. [ that means beautiful, Mommy.]
Does she know you like her?
I dunno. I told Ethan. I'm gonna go play Wii now
Wow. I am thinking this is cute but also totally freaked out!!!
My son is only 6 and in kindergarten! AND it is a small catholic school....

Don't let it bother you. I remember one day my oldest came home from kindergarten and told me he loved school because he got to see all his "women" every day. After a bit of questioning, it turned out that he was literally becoming friends with everyone in the class, including the girls and playing with them at recess.
He had his four "best girlfriends" though--the four blonds. "Their hair is like sunlight, Mommy. So pretty."
This child is now 10. Has a special "enemy" in class (a little blond girl). They tease each other unmercifully and he officially "hates girls". If kissing comes on TV, he starts gagging and says, "Why do they have to do that????"
Your little guy sounds completely normal.

My son came into my bathroom (while I was drying my hair) to get hair gel the other day. I told him his hair was too long and we needed to get it cut.
"NO MOM! I like it this way and so do the girls!"
Girls? What girls? (he's 9...I thought they hated girls at that age!)
So I told him that if he wanted to keep his hair so long, then I would need proof that the girls really liked it.
"I want written and signed statements from at least 3 girls in your class. And they have to give me good reasons why they like your hair long."
He said ok (figures!).
But I have yet to see them!
(I think we'll get his hair cut on Monday, right after his dentist appointment.)

This is too funny!!! Yesterday my 5-year-old shocked me with a similar confession. Grace (one of his favorite friends in school) loves someone else and not him. What do you say to that? When he's only 5!?!
He then went on to give a lovely example of an illogical syllogism:
" Girls love boys that are cool, and I'm a cool boy, but girls just don't love me. That doesn't make any sense at all!"
I reassured him that he was indeed a cool kid, whatever that means, and that girls like all kinds of things about boys, such as good friendship skills, etc. No clue if he got anything from it.
I'm with you scraphappy. I too think this is cute and I'm freaking out.

Yes, I'm with you on this, too. When my oldest came home from Kindergarten and said a boy had hugged and kissed her on the playground, I was FLOORED. I immediately emailed her teacher wanting to know WHY this was happening with 5 year olds. She basically said that the little boy just likes to hug everyone, but that she would talk to the kids and tell them to save the hugs and kisses for their moms and dads.
A funny story though:
It was obvious, when she was in Kindergarten, that this little boy liked her but she liked a different boy. She was so REASONABLE about it. She came home one day and said the two boys (one liked her, one she liked) confronted her on the playground and asked which one she liked better. She replied, "I like EVERYBODY. I don't like anyone more than anyone else."
I was so proud, thinking this was the perfect answer to come from such a young girl.
Well, here we go to first grade. She still obviously likes the same little boy she liked in Kindergarten. But, she's very reserved about it... until the day she came home and said another girl had said that boy confessed to liking her instead of my daughter.
The very next day my daughter went to school and casually asked the boy, "Did you say you were in love with T____? Because that is what she told me."
His reply was:
"I don't like anyone more than anyone else. I like you all the same."

My son just turned 6 and says he is going to marry me when he is grown up. But I am not his girlfriend. Sophia is the prettiest girl at school but she is not his girlfriend either. Madison is his gf because she gives him presents. Hmmmmm......
