We had a great day today! I spoke to about 200 elementary students at 7:30 am and about 75 middle schoolers at 12:30 pm. WE layed probably 125 blocks in our construction project. and poured to bond beam foundations for additional walls that will be built this week. All in all we may lay as many as 750 concrete blocks this week. The community we are working in is very poor. The walls we are building are part of a small church that feeds the 100 hungriest children in the neighborhood every day. Building walls is a big part of what we do, but we tear down as many walls as we build. This is the biggest event of the year for the children that are with us every day. They don{t have TV , radio, or toys to play with, so when 11 crazy gringos roll into town they do not know what to do. One little guy, Luis, is 5 this year. Somtimes I carry and lay the blocks with him in my arms. He calls me his mejor amigo, or best friend. Half of his teeth are rotted out or broken off from mal nutrition. He is dirty from head to toe, with who knows what living in his short hair. He is the most precious thing I have ever seen. Outside of my own children, he is closer to my heart than any child in the world. When we pulled up to the church yesterday he ran and jumped into the arms of someone he hasnt seen in a year. He remembered the big white americano whose heart he stole a year ago. He was anly 4 yo when we last parted ways. Anyhow, we have a lot of work ahead of us. It will be atleast friday before we finish laying the block. However, the debt of love that I am paying this week will never be payed off. If you pray, remember the children of Honduras when you read this post. If not, think of them often as well as all of the other innocents out there in the world who are just struggling to live from day to day. I pray that each of you will find your own way to make a small difference in the life of someone, somewhere too.

WOW, Bubba. Thank you for sharing that with us.

You be safe all the way down there in Honduras, and share that love you have to give far and wide.

Bubba, you and the others are being such a blessing to those kids and to the whole community. Luis sounds adorable and I can see you carrying a concrete block under one arm and a kid in the other.

Give all those kids a hug from this "gringa loca" that you know in NC.

I think what you're doing is amazing, especially since it seems that you're getting back as much as you're giving. Keep up the wonderful work!

Just a short update. Today we layed about 200 blocks. The building is really starting to take shape. The reason I like doing construction work in places like this is that there are results of your presence that you can see and know what has been accomplished. Hopefully many other things will be accomplished that the eye cannot see. In a surprise move, the CASA REal hotel where we are staying packed us up and moved us to new romms that were available today. Two words! HOT WATER!!! After a day in 110 degree heat and you are coverd in dust and mortar residue, a cold shower is OK. But I like em hot!

In other news I did some checking today about me mejor amigo Luis opportunity for education. No sir, no public education in Honduras. Most families are simply too poor to send thier children to school. To me this will be different than sending money to some one youve never met for some child youve never met. I cant meet the needs of every child here, but Im looking ionto an opportunity to make a huge difference in the life of this one. This is my third week to watch him eat the dried fish heads and rice that the Colonial Church provides for breakfast everyday. Not only doeas he not complain, he takes his little hands and wipes the bowl clean, not wasting even a drop.

In response to some comments Ive recieved, I am so NOT a good person. Everyday my family throws away enough food to feed a couple of families here. I waste so much money on silly things, not a reference to Letterboxing at all, just dumb dumb things that I have no need for. May I become broken enough to change all of that.

It sounds that you are on the way! The Lord is doing re-construction on your heart!
Living the sermon as Bruce Carroll sang it is more important than what we preach.

Amen! Brother.
