Desperately Seeking SUN is over..CROSSPOST

I have no idea where to post this, but it looks like the NY board was the place where most of the attendees were posting.

I just want to thank everyone for coming out to box in the snow. After the weather horror stories of previous SUNS, I am still amazed that people will take the time and effort to come to an upstate NY letterboxing event in the dead of winter. THANK YOU!

As you may have noticed, it's a heck of a lot harder to do an event from 300 miles away, and especially when several of your helpers couldn't make it through the bad weather in the tri-state area. Nevertheless, all sorts of amazing people stepped up to make it happen. Partypig and WES helped plant tons of boxes, The Phoenix drove me out in the middle of the night on Friday so that the last few were planted in time for SUN, Maggie/Magnolia Bud helped staple cluebooks, Scout and Eagle Eye and Maggie as well as Music Woman helped set up, MTNest Robin and Frick and Frack helped clean up, and lots of other people pitched in when I wasn't looking to clean, haul, pack, gather up, wash, etc. It was like having a bunch of fairy godmothers attend! Thank you thank you thank you! I especially want to thank my daughter Kicia, as she is always such a joy and a help to me. She commented on how nice people were to her and is starting to believe that maybe this ISN'T a cult! Did anyone notice her "Dieter" name tag ( she is a big Sprockets fan, as we are all movie-obsessed in our family...lol). Thanks everyone, for being so nice and welcoming to her.. it was her first event too!

I had a lot of fun at each of the events, from the pre-party to the after party (although that band could have used a stadium...sheesh). I didn't mind eating and running when it meant I could go back to the hotel and visit in the lobby...and I especially loved the debate between the two Presidential candidates, Team New Hampshire and Cyclonic. SUN was too hectic to host the debate but the lobby gather was PERFECT. These guys are true gentlemen and gave thoughtful and candid responses to all of our questions. And so creative! Cyclonic gets props for having the best campaign posters ( I believe Pickle-eaters For Cyclonic was one of my faves) and Team New Hampshire had the best campaign swag ( did anyone read the back of the great LTC with him holding the crying baby? Hysterical!). I think that was one of my favorite parts of the whole weekend because it was PURE letterboxing talk. We covered it all from Blue Diamonds, to National Park planting, to letterboxing spin-off hobbies (virtuals, LTCs, etc) to pet peeves. For two guys who are of two very different styles, they had much more in common than I would have thought. I really loved moderating this and I just wish more people had stayed up to listen in. I will be posting the scoring of the issues without their exact responses, and I just hope more people get a chance to talk to them both at more events. I disagreed with both of them at times, but agreed with most of their stances. But I will go out on a limb right here and say I am supporting Team New Hampshire. I was most impressed with his perfect blend of letterboxing stewardship and sense of humor. Cyclonic, I love ya, but for me, he beat you by the width of a sheet of PZ Cut! lol

There was no casting of ballots at SUN, but just a chance to talk the issues before November's election. May the best man win! So sorry that the other candidates couldn't make it, but I am pretty sure they are not pulling a Romney. They are in it to win it!

For those who need help logging finds, the hidden tiny boxes ( bunnies, apples, eggs, ice cream cones and hearts are NOT cooties, but true letterboxes. I plant them for the kids to help find...some of them especially for the ones who are not old enough to read yet! They are posted under: You're No bunny if Some Bunny Loves You( Bunnies), Desperately Seeking An Apple(Apples), Cackleberries (eggs), My Favorite Flavors ( Ice Cream Cones), Demented Valentines (hearts). Several of you found the bonus box "Mouthful of Nuts" and a few even were there long enough to get Desperately Seeking A Ladybug!

Thanks again to all who had fun and filled their logbooks at SUN. If anyone knows who won the planters and finders baskets, please let me know, as I have their merit badges for them!
