'X' about to reach 100 finds

For some of you on the east coast, near the North Carolina or Virginia area, some all around the country may know my dad X Marks the Spot. He told me a couple days ago that he was almost to 100 finds, only 1 more needed. So, yes I know that this doesn't seem like a big achievement to you guys having 3 or 4 hundred finds (or possibly more) yourselves but he's only been doing this for about a year. So, for him this is a big achievement and if you could congratulate him when he gets there, I think he'd like it from his fellow letterboxers. Thanks!

Bobguyman46--
The reason your dad does not have 100 finds yet is not because he could not have had that about 6 months ago, it's because he has spent his time meeting 'boxers and generously donating UNBELIEVEABLE boxes throughout the country!

He's been to areas of NC that are THICK with letterboxes, stopped and visited and spent his time sharing his talents without finding one box himself.

It's wonderful that he will be celebrating his 100th find (he sure deserves it), and I sure hope he gets it in NC before he leaves the area (it will be quite a loss when he leaves), but anyone can find 100 boxes. Not just anyone can create what X makes and draw people together like he does.

Now when he does hit that 100th box be sure and post it-- can't wait to see what he picked! There has been quite a number of us that have saved X 'boxes for our milestone boxes. I'm hoping that my 500th box will be a particular X 'box that I've had my eye on...

Numbers Numbers Numbers....

I remember when I started in July last year thinking what would 100 be like .... never mind those with the 300, 400 ...... 1000 ......

I have had the great honor to met your Dad, and I shocked him pulling out my 3 ring binder and ripping out clues for him for downtown Greenville. I think that was the day that it really hit me that numbers really mean nothing, it is really everything else, the adventure, the friends, the experience. There is so much more to this then the number or the color ribbon next to your name.

X is about as good as they come. I will be very happy for him when he hits #100 but there is SO much more that defines him then that number to all of us !

We certainly will congratulate him when he reaches 100.

I am with everyone else on this one..... "X" has taken his time creating boxes for the rest of us, so that WE can get out there and find, find, find !!
We've only had the pleasure of finding 2 "X" boxes..... but they are truly extraordinary !!
We here in NC will miss him greatly when he moves west.

X is moving WEST??? NOOOOOOOO! :)

He and his family are very nice people. I had the chance to meet him last Summer when they were in Virginia Beach. Hopefully we can have another meet and greet before he leaves!

I just have to share our experience with "X", too :o) We were really new LBer's and found a box of his.....the "plant" was awesome!!! In the box was a note that there was a "bonus stamp" if we followed the directions........which we did. We were so new at this.......when we arrived at the spot, (on private property) here comes this guy walking towards us and we wondered what on earth excuse could we give this guy for being parked where we were.........then he got this huge grin on his face and we noticed a wooden box under his arm. It was "X Marks The Spot"!!!! In short, we had our very first exchange.....and got to meet bobguyman46 too :o)......and "X" did not even balk when we produced our very first sig stamp which was store bought. At the time, we did not even know there were boxers who would not have allowed our stamp into their log book. We're hoping to meet up with "X" again so he can have our hand carved stamps, too. What an amazing time that was for new boxers like we were.......like our own private little gather with X Marks The Spot. He certainly had a big influence on how we feel about the "sport". He told us all kinds of things and made us feel so welcome. Thank you "X".......and bobguyman46-----you're a pretty cool son!

I'd swear he stakes out his boxes to catch people at them. We had a similar experience.

I just started looking at some clues in that area yesterday, as we will be returning, but not until July. I will be thinking of you tomorrow; green with envy.

We have really enjoyed Scout's boxes in that area. I recall a few boxes in the Estuarine Preserve near the "end of the road" that were enjoyable as well.

Happy Trails,
