My first rant is about Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd!

First of all, yeah, Comfortably Numb is TOTALLY out there. However, put on some earphones, take a whopping dose of cold medicine when you've got the flu... Oh, man! Good times! :-)

Have you ever seen "Pink Floyd's The Wall"? The segment where they play this song is really the only part that I like. It totally shows how completely messed up Pink is by the life of a rock-n-roller and his bad childhood.

I've got a fair amount of Pink Floyd's stuff on CD but it is not stuff I listen to regularly and, in a lot of cases, certainly NOT with the kids in the car. I've really got to be in a certain mood to listen to it at all.

I've seen parts of it...again, another case of the hype being more than the movie...kinda like watching Tommy by The Who (do NOT get me started on THAT one!)

I was disappointed in both those movies. My musical tastes were in place prior to exposure to MTV (precocious kid + rural area), so I've always thought the best albums created a world without the need for additional visual stimulus - though I do consider cover art an important part of the experience. Certain bands, especially Pink Floyd and some of the more progressive groups, create a whole sonic landscape that in my opinion can actually be diminished by the addition of too much in the way of visuals. The narrative of "The Wall" is convoluted and often obscure - which makes it a great album for repeated listening, but it's not something that easily translates to film.

Comfortably Numb is one of the Pink Floyd songs my son (16) & I agreed he should play at my funeral. (The other one is Waiting for the Worms....) =D
