Quote I used to LOVE listening to the Dr. Demento radio show. Anyone else?

Okay, I'm going to make you all jealous. Dr. Demento graduated from Reed College, here in Portland, Oregon.

A couple of weeks ago, he was here AGAIN for 4 nights. 3 were lectures, like censorship and how it affects what you hear and what you don't. I didn't get to attend the lectures.

The last night, Saturday, was a "concert" of favorite songs and videos, including the Fish Heads original video (with Bill Mumy, one of the two singers. Bill was the little kid on Lost in Space TV show.)

The Dr. also had videos of Tom Lehrer!! There are 11 on YouTube by someone with Swede in the name, so the Dr. thought the performances were from Sweden.

Here's the kicker: All of his appearances were FREE! I sat in the first row, right in front of him (lecture hall) and had him sign both of my CD's -- a 2 disc set of favorites, anniversary collection from 1990.

What fun!

I used to listen to that set over & over! I never got it on CD, though. I always had it on cassette.

How lucky for you to get to see that!

Now wait one second. I am a huge Tom Lehrer fan, have over ten thousand records, and a 500 dollar turntable. You can't be a fan of the blues, classic rock, or honky-tonk without a turntable.

And, I would still consider myself youngish.

In fact, that piano playin devil on the front of "Songs by Tom Lehrer" would make a killer stamp.

a different slant on the same subject: our grandsons (ages 2 1/2, 4, and 6) absolutely LOVE using our turntable, cassette recorder, and old typewriter. They keep them busy for hours....they are so much more interesting than a common ol' computer :o)

I still have a turntable (and use it) and just recently got rid of the one I had just to play my 78s. Remember 78s?

I, of course, am much to young to remember them at all. *snerk*
