Are you a stamp collector?

I have told a number of people that I work with about letterboxing. Especially if I have a good trail story to share. Some of my managers know that I hand carve rubber stamps, but that's it, I won't tell them about letterboxing.

I was working tonight at the shop. A gentleman comes in and goes to one of the ladies at the register.
He says to Lissette: "I see that there are people working here that are from all over. Is there anybody here that collects stamps?"
And she says, "Oh yes! Dawn collects stamps"
He comes over to me and asks me if I collect stamps. I jump out of my chair, "Of course! I love stamps!"
I start to ask him what his trail name is, and he hands me a business card.
A plain, ordinary, business card.
He must have noticed the look of confusion on my face. And he explained that he was from Canada and he collected postage stamps, both Canadian and American.
"Oh, you're a stamp collector"
I didn't tell him about letterboxing. But I quickly explained that I was an artist that hand carved stamps. And that I had just gone to a "show" yesterday. I also explained that I had mistaken him for a fellow "artist"
I happened to have an event stamp with me. (To show off to my friends) I showed it to him. He thought it was very good. But he didn't seem too interested in collecting my type of stamps.

Later, Melodie, who was working near me, said, "The next time someone comes up to you like that, you'll have to ask 'Postal or rubber?'"
And she said that right as our manager walks by.
The look on Lori's face was priceless!

So then I had to tell Lori about my "stamp collection"

It's official, letterboxing has taken over my life

Simply priceless. I am so glad you shared this story. It's funny how the language changes when you become a boxer. I would have loved to see the look on your bosses face when she heard about your 'hobby' in this way. Hee hee.

No, you're not alone, David. I thought it was about postage stamps at first too, but then my almost-muggle husband does collect those paper things. I guess I have an excuse. :-)

Cute story, though. "Postal or rubber?" LOL

I used to collect the paper kind but got years behind. I have boxes full of those not processed. It will take me years to catch up. Nope, not gonna happen. :) Letterboxing is more fun!

Berry Artistic is Letterbug's Mom. I know Berry has asked about you reciently. I told her I had seen you at Stone Mountain. And that you post often.
I work with both of them. They are very dear friends of mine.
Berry doesn't walk too well. And Letterbug has some health issues too. So they pretty much given up on letterboxing. Letterbug says she hops from hobby to hobby anyway.

I will let them know you were asking

=0)
