Strangest thing found while boxing, thus far:
Board: Yakking It Up

Anyone who has been boxing for some time has come across something odd while out on the trail; and today I found my first truly odd item. I was looking to plant a box at a civil war heritage camp a few miles outside of the town I live in. After walking the trails for a while, I found what looked to be a great spot by a small waterfall. While standing with my boots in the water and searching for a nice spot, I looked down and saw a camo box submerged underwater. Naturally, my first thought was a geocache, so I pulled it out to inspect it. The box was rusted shut, but with a little bit of prying, I was able to open it, and inside I found a set of spare keys to the park!

They had little symbols drawn on them, shaped like the various buildings at the camp, though faded and washed out from being underwater. I entertained the notion of giving them the ol' college try since the buildings were closed today, but thought better of it, so I placed them back where I found them.

There's my story. Here's my photo:

What's the strangest thing you've found?

{{What's the strangest thing you've found?}}

We found a broom propped up against a sandstone "cliff" on the trail once. Don't know what they thought they were sweeping.
We have also found a pair of scissors and a 50 lb bag of cat food.

Makes you wonder.

AND a guy chopping at a tree with his foreman, guarded by very large, spiked collar dog.
That one was a little scary!!!

We were in a cemetary and found a full course meal on a tray like you would get from a cafeteria or luncheonette. The cemetary was an old country cemetary. In the middle of "nowhere." No restaurants of any sort nearby. And, the food was not "old" or bug/animal eaten. Probably, placed there the same day. We were unsure if it was from someone who had run away to hide from us (because we are pretty scary - oh yes, we are) or if it were some sort of gift to ... someone. Was pretty weird. ~BSuzy

When I first started I was doing a Valley Quest, yes that is a form of letterbox and I found a hard plastic tye dyed ball, very cool, very odd. I still have it in a side pocket of my kit. I call it a doo dad and believe it brings me luck, tho maybe not as much as some guy visiting the cemetary while the bikini top was being hung.

You better check with the Boxerati to make sure you can claim that a Valley Quest is truly a form of letterbox.....

Just sayin'

LMBO! :D This isn't as good as some of the others, but the strangest thing I found while boxing was a whole bunch of food scattered along the side of the road through the park, right behind the sign warning not to feed the animals!

Well, the huge cage in the woods with a pair of panties on it was kinda freaky. I suspect the cage was for wild boar, but I didn't know they shopped at Victoria's Secret. Also, on the same trip, a new laptop. Oh, and while scouting a new spot, a duffle bag FULL of empty bottles of vanilla extract.

We went to visit our Campbell's Covered Bridge box to do maintenance and find another. I just drove up and parked. When I got out of my van and shut the door, there was half a deer laying on the ground. Needless to say, I had second thoughts about going any further as I had no idea what or who put it there. E of JJJAKER checked our box while I started on finding the other. After stamping in, I looked up to see a man watching us. I calmly walked back and got her attention. As we were walking to the van, he came up to us. Needless to say, I was scared. This is a remote wooded area. We went on E's lunch break so we didn't even bother telling our hubby's or anyone we were going. He started in on warts being hidden in boxes and told us we couldn't leave stuff on private property. (This is how the warts box was born on this sight by dtandfambly.) We went to get the boxes - I was sure he was going to pull a gun or knife on us when we got back. We hightailed it out of there. After meeting t of dt to give her the box we pulled of hers, she went back later and rehid it and another and E re-hid ours. I am still freaked to this day.

Well, the first strange thing was porn, folded up and placed right on top of the letterbox.

The second was a large pill bottle with pot, a pipe, and a lighter.

Yes foks, other folks use the woods for things other than letterboxing!

How about what could only be described as a pacifier tree? Not to be confused with the hair care product tree. Both in Stone Mountain Park. I think there was also a third, but I don't remember (or am trying to block out) what it was.

Once, I found a 300+lb. boar carcass mostly eaten, and what was left was rotting on rocks on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico...

We actually found a pipe as well once while looking for a LB down at the beach. But it actually looked like pretty sea glass, so my boy's wondered why I wasn't taking it. They didn't know what it really was, and I pray that they never will;)

I know we have found other stuff, but I can't remember any of the other stuff:(

I hid a couple boxes in what turned out to be a hook up place for middle-aged men who were into middle-aged men. Awkward.

the place: a small, remote, country cemetery
when I pulled up I saw the pile where old flowers and grave decor is usually thrown...and it looked as though there was some clothes on the pile, and they looked full...so I was a little frightened.
It was stuffed clothes, kind of similar to a scarecrow, and the head was a Care Bear....so so strange.

We found a guys wallet scattered over about a 25 foot debri field...

We drove the Police Station (it was a Sunday). We tried the door and it was locked. A lady came to the door and told us that we'd have to come back tomorrow- they're closed on Sunday... I thought THAT was the weird part!

Also, my mother (hawkeye), Eidolon, and Artemis found three abandoned puppies (2 of which still live with Eidolon and Artemis) in a cemetery.

Those were 3 lucky puppies. I'm so glad you didn't just leave them there.
