Last Thusday I was stupid enough to run out of petrol, several miles from the nearest filling station, and in the freezing cold. The guy behind helped me to push the car to the verge and went merrily on his way. I called the breakdown service for help and was told they should be there ithin and hour, or two. As I was beside a fast section of a busy road during rush-hour it a good idea to follow aadvice and not wait in the car. So I sat on a nearby fence and got very cold. In 65 minutes only three drivers stopped to ask if I was OK.

Then a lady grove up, stopped, got out and gave me a flask of coffee. Her mother had driven by earlier and thought I looked cold so rang her daughter who lived nearby and practically ordered her to take me a hot drink! My estimation of the human race shot up.

I doubt if either lady reads AQ but I want to publicly say THANK YOU to them and promise that I will try to pass on the act if the opportunity arises.

Thanks for sharing. That's very hopeful. During this time of year, I need these stories. As a welfare fraud investigator I get to see the amazing greed and those that take advantage of those that give at holiday time.

Around here we have a magazine called the Penny Saver. There is a section called "On the Brighter Side" and "I Gotta Vent" Its where people write in stories just as yours (to the Brighter side part). I love reading those...it makes you think that not all is bad. Though I have to say I love reading the Vents too...some of them are so funny!

Glad to hear that your story turned out ok!

when I go through the local coffee shops drive thru I always buy for the car behind me. Usually it is less than $2.00 and I have the lady in the window tell them to pay it forward.

I heard a story on the news just last week that this happened in Seatle some where. I started with one person and continued the rest of the day. The coffee shop said that others had done it in the past but it had never caught on like it did that day, every body just kept paying it forward. It was soo cool, I thought what a great idea. I will have to keep it in mind the next time I go threw a coffee stand.

When DH and I were driving from Sacto to SF two summers ago, another driver cut us off right near where you pay on the toll road. He made up for it by paying our toll, so we paid the toll for the person behind us!
