That is so neat! I think Qatar is my most "uncommon" country

Qatar's are not uncommon. In fact, I'm hoping my family gets me Qatar Hero 80's Edition for Christmas. I already own Qatar Hero 1,2, and 3.

That's pretty cool. I think most of my cards that I have rec'd have come from fairly populated countries, though one I did send out recently went to the Isle of Man which is pretty small. Though I am not sure how many people participate there. I should go and look :o)

Funny enough, I was looking at different places to see how many participants they had, and the Isle of Man was one of them (it is listed under Man, Isle of). I believe there were 2 people from the Isle of Man registered on Postcrossing. :)

ok so if you care I went and checked my stats... I am still a new user with under 30 sent and rec'd on mine. My top three rec'd are 6 Finland, 4 germany and 3 from the Netherlands. Which I am sure is no surprise. The most unusual sent was Isle of man, the rest pretty common. I have also gotten quite a few cards through private swaps but none from unusual places.

Though I have to say I did get a nice surprise the other day as well. I had a name to send to which was for a small class in Japan. The teacher was actually requesting cards on behalf of the children. There were 6 kids, so instead of sending just one card, I figured it would be just the same if I sent 6. I ended up sending 8, one for each child, one for the class as a whole and one for the teacher herself. She explained they were trying to learn English and that's why they were collecting the cards. She listed the childrens first names in the bio so I sent each child a card with thier name and a note on each one.
The teacher wrote me and said the kids loved the cards and Thank you and to be watching my mail for something in return.
She sent two postcards, explaining the the people of Japan instead of sending Christmas cards send New Years postcards and this was the year of the mouse. I also got a post card with my name written in Japanese and my name in japansese... katakana. She also included a small fan and a small card that says Uchiwa-fan for greeting card. I thought that was very nice. And of course I was thrilled :o) Hopefully the kids were as excited as me :o)

Now he has self prclaimed himself King David and calls his daughter Princess.

I found the link so if your intrested ...

I'm reading this, and I'm pretty sure it's in English, but it's not making sense in my brain at all........

I think it has to do with the pronounciation of Qatar. Some people pronounce it so that it rhymes with guitar (which should help you with Yuk's comment) and some people, including those on the news, say "Cutter". :)

I had a student from Qatar, and she pronounced it like it rhymed with guitar, but with the accent on the first syllable.

How cool!

We do both the official site and the forum, but love the official site so much because of the surprise aspect--our most exotic were from Thailand and Korea.

I love that their are Manx postcrossers--I was on the Isle of Man once in High school--one of our history teachers was really into archaeology and somehow had connections to get a group of us over to an archaeological dig at Peel Castle on the Isle of Man--very cool. I spent my sweet 16 on the Isle!! It is a beautiful place!

Postcrossing is a really fun hobby!

:)
