Humor when I least expected it!

(Caution---a little edgy with the language---but it suits the day yesterday!)

On a roll yesterday having about 200 letterboxes---errr, locations for errands all lined up like a big day at an event......Mt. Dew IV inserted and full tank of gas.......GONNA get this crap off my list if it kills me!!!!! Here we go....NO speeding, (cruise control is my friend) no red lights and NO towing for SURE!!!

Pulled into a parking lot yesterday right next to a really small older white Honda-type car. Took note that no one was inside the white car, ran into the store and was back to my car in a flash. Got in my car, saw something out of the corner of my eye and then BUSTED out LAUGHING!!!!!

Turns out there WAS someone in that white car---only he had now crawled into the driver's seat looking straight ahead with his head nearly touching the top of the inside of the car?!?!

It was about an 8 month old black and white spotted GORGEOUS Great Dane!!!!!!!!!!!! He was just sitting right there in the driver's seat like it was HIS JOB!!!!!!!! I have no idea HOW that dog even got into the car---much less get from the back seat where he MUST have been?! into the driver's seat. But any movement he made rocked that car---lemmetellya?! To boot-----He made it look like a CLOWN CAR!!!

Okay....now remember that one commercial from a couple of years ago where some guy is somewhat slouched down in his parked car in front of the school----waiting on his kid to get out of school....and the principal had just given this big honkin' pep talk about raising money selling candy bars and the winner gets to go to Disney World??? The bell rings and the kids all come busting out of the front doors and he turns sideways and looks out the driver's window with this LOOK on his face as all the kids want to pounce on him to buy THEIR candy bars???

Back to the dog....so I'm literally laughing out loud at this dog....decide I don't CARE---I'm gonna use my cell phone to snap a picture of this HILLARIOUS site.....extend my arm out as far as I can to snap the picture.....just as this massive dog head turns to look at me with zero space between him and his rolled up window....lol....PERFECT I'm thinking!!!!!!

and what do I do???? Oh yeah....I have the cell phone backwards....and take a picture of myself laughing my------A$$ off?!

Much to my own (dismay---laughter----stupidity) (you choose ANY word you want there?!) I'm laughing even harder by now....(and no....NO ONE is gonna see THAT photo?!)

and so I go try it again...

this time with my cell phone turned the correct way....I'm laughing EVEN harder if THAT was possible....

but by this time--the dang dog now has ALL his windows steamed up WITH those nose marks on the windows and the picture doesn't show SQUAT?!

NOW the OWNER comes out and sees me doing WHAT.....and just gives me one of those looks like----"lady---WHAT is your problem?!" So off I race with my grease pencil markings still on the window from when I was towed?!

I'm sitting hear reading this story at work and the backwards cell phone part made me BURST out laughing just as a co-worked walked by. He gives the look that says "B**** what the heck are you laughing at me for!"

I tell him I was sorry and NOT laughoing at him but of coarse he doesn't belive me! OOPS! Guess I REALLY should be getting some work done...yeah right LOL!

This story reminds me of my mom..... the other day my brother called my cell phone to talk to mom (because we were having lunch together) so I hand her the phone and we are sitting at a table waiting for our food. My mom keeps saying "speak up I can't hear you"... I look up and realize that she is talking on the phone BACKWARDS. She has the camera up to her ear and the earpiece facing her hand! I laughed SO loud the whole restaurant looked at us! She ended up calling my brother back using my phone correctly and saying "WOW! Now I can hear you so much better!"

We've all had our Blonde/Senior moments! LOL! I LOVE em!

TT, you are too funny, girl! You are a...well...something funny waiting for a place to happen! When you had your arm out the window, I thought you were going to say that's when you realized his windows were down and he reached out and gotcha! Good thing he didn't!
Thanks for the chuckle!

Team Springamajack----thanks for sharing both of your stories! Sorry to have caused issues with your co-worker!! Love your trail name!! Does that help any?! =P

Tail----I bet your dog is beautiful!!!! Greg's wife works for our Vet and is paid through Franklin county to take care of abandoned dogs. When Greg was home on leave, she insisted that Greg and I come see what she was talking about----how many HUNDREDS of homeless dogs there are at the "Meet and Greet" events they have every other Sunday. Plus she fosters a bunch, she takes care of the 40 that are housed at our Vet clinic at all times---AND the other 50-ish that the Vet takes home with her?!?!

When we went to the meet and greet thing----there he was----the most gorgeous black and white spotted Great Dane! I love huge dogs. I still have the brochure with this fella's picture right next to my computer. Beth grew up with a Bull Mastiff and just had to put him down a year ago. Broke Beth's heart.

Tail----you need to make a PT or something for your GD/SB mix and include a pic in the clues!!! Can you bring him or her to the next outdoor event????

TT-I will think of a PT and include a picture of him (his name is Kirby) in the clues :) I will work on that! Did I mention I have a yellow lab too (Sandy)? We love big dogs too! They are great. Maybe I will bring him to an event in the spring..will think about that. Sandy gets so jealous when he isn't home as they are hard to separate...spoiled is what they are!

Tail----the name Kirby for a Great Dane is just too cute and that is cool you have a second big dog!

Okay.....so here is the tie in to letterboxing...

There is just no way I can do another big event like the military one in 2008. Greg will be coming home (thank God) and then he will also be getting out of the military completely (sad and happy at the same time). So I have to keep lots of dates and months open to help Greg and Beth with moving more than once.

BUT....Beth has been educating me about the stunning number of dogs that are abandoned each year and at any one time. (More here in Ohio than in NYC?! Guess we beat them with numbers again, Van Man?!) When Greg, Beth and I went to one of the "Mingles" at the dog shelter.....it occured to me this might be a good place to have a "launch point" for an event.

Beth and I went to look at a house and some property down in the Hocking Hills area today and on the way I talked to her about how I might do an event to raise awareness of homeless dogs in Franklin County. While she is not into letterboxing, she did start brainstorming with me about possible stamps and statistics etc.

We thought about featuring 10 different dogs or so that the shelter chooses to do stamps etc. (They are super proud that they just adopted out a dog that had been there for 2 years and had put a necktie on him---his name is Clifford?!) There could be different breeds featured.....and even different rescue groups....for example, there is a rescue group specifically for hunting dogs, spaniels, Great Danes......and these groups generally bring their own tent so you can find them on the lawn of the shelter. (There are hundreds of dogs inside at any given time!!)

I was thinking that you had to come to their "Mingle" which is a meet and greet, basically, you would have to find me to get your clues and your event stamp.....and then find each dog or something....????? There would be no potluck, no traveling event stamps....but stamps in the area and there at the shelter. (They would have to be hidden so the dogs wouldn't eat or chew the Lock-n-locks!) =)

Okay....so just lightly throwing this out for now....

TT,
I love this idea! Mich. Fan 300's G.S. Troop did their Bronze Award with the Humane Soc. here in our county last summer! We had a blast at the Slobber Fest in Hilliard and it sounds like the same type of event. However...darling Trailtracker...

(They would have to be hidden so the dogs wouldn't eat or chew the Lock-n-locks!) =)

This is just too scary to even contemplate! :)

Brainstorm on, girl! You know I'll love to help out with anything DOG related!

TT,

I too wondered where you disappeared for awhile, but am happy to have you back. You were missed.

My cocker spaniel, Kelly is a rescued dog. She is the sweetest and cutest dog and we are so thankful that she is part of our family. We adopted her from a cocker spaniel kennel which takes in rescued dogs. When we went to choose a new member of our family, Lindsay (the then 11 year old) immediately fell in love with her. Many of the other dogs were their typical enthusiastic selves and jumping up and so excited. But then there was Kelly, just hanging back and being so sweet. We took her home and she would not leave Lindsay's side; they bonded immediately. This bonding extended to all of Lindsay's stuffed animals (which you can imagine that an 11 year old girl might have more than her fair share), such that each one would be transported by Kelly from Lindsay's upstairs room down to the family room (one by one).

Well now, 7 years later, Lindsay is off to college. There aren't any more stuffed animals and we now have the sweetest dog following us everywhere we go. We are so thankful for her.
