Is that a Wednesday?!
If only we could get out of work....
Can't believe the Green One will be in town and we'll miss it!

My Nick and Becky, you both seem to have come down with something over the weekend and it just kept getting worse throughout the beginning of the week...

So it's a Wednesday, is it? Man, I probably won't be able to make it then unless I can convince my kids' school that it's an educational trip. :-)
It actually might work...

That might be an option...though that is the week right after spring break!

Ahem... might I remind you that it actually started Friday morning, when they announced that they "had a dog training class Friday night..."? Hmm... I'm seeing a pattern developing...
Eidolon signs up for an event, so MK doesn't — or backs out at the last minute! Could it be that Ida Lawn is getting too close to collecting all of More So-So Coffee's "Lucky Day" stamps?
:-D

I am sure that is part of it. LOL
At the momemt, I have 3 IOUs (VLB, FF on Gorgon, Taco Mac in Newnan) and 4 "others" to account for, one of which will be whatever encounter when I am claiming the other stamps so that only leaves 3 more.

Hahaha...actually we're looking forward to someone (and that will probably be Eidolon) to hurry up and get all 20! That'll be cool. Besides, it's a shame to have a box sitting out there without even one person having a chance at finding it...
We're looking forward to getting together again (with everyone)...things are just so crazy all the time. It seems like by the time we get home from work each day we get dinner and then try to stay up but then fall asleep and then have to come back to work.
All the space in between is spent answering people's calls about the wedding and dealing with The Barghest, etc. Luckily things will free up a lot after Christmas.
Besides all that...it would have taken more than Eidolon to keep us away from being able to collect the new 99 bottles event stamp. After missing the new Ghost Story box at the Haunt we were especially bummed to miss that too.

I would love to try to make it, but it might be hard considering I'll be making the trip up a month later for the big gather. :o)
The letterboxers of Florida are ready for the arrival of The Green One. We're here for you, Ryan! :o)

I've never hiked the Florida Trail. I've looked at it and drooled, but, alas, a few children do temporarily weigh one down a bit.
BTW, just wondering, Ryan, if you'll be taking the Eastern or Western Corridor?

*heh* I guess this means I should sign up, huh? =)
Hope you don't mind, but Eljay was it? I don't even know where that is, so I switched the event location to Springer Mountain.
It's one of the few non-city supported locations on AQ. I added it when I needed a start point for the Appalachian Trail trip planner. =)
I should also point out.... no promises that I'll make it there on that specific date. It is subject to change depending on conditions! It's a rather ambitious schedule to hike from Key West to Springer Mountain in 3 1/2 months--under normal conditions, I'd probably give myself a solid four months for the hike. I'll have to keep my zero days to a minimum and hike two or three extra miles every day more than I did while thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. It's doable, but I'm not making any promises. It's a goal right now, and nothing more! =)

Ellijay is a little bit NW of Canton/Roswell. Does that help? Not that it matters. lol :o)

At this time, I plan to go west around the Big O and east around Orlando. It's subject to change at whim, however. =)

"The southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail lies almost exactly in the middle of a line drawn from Ellijay to Dahlonega, and 8 miles north of Amicalola Falls."
Um, does that mean the gathering includes an 8 mile hike to Springer? :)

There's a road that goes up to it, about a half-mile away from the summit as I recall. A pretty easy walk from that parking lot, but I've been told that the directions to the location can be a challenge.
Hey, I need someone to pick me up, or I won't be going to any gathering!! ;o)
Or I could hike back down to Amicalola Falls, but if I had to do that, I'd probably spend the night on Springer Mountain and hike back the next morning.

Hmm...your hike would end at Springer? Don't you want to continue on for another 6 miles to be sure you get all the letterboxes hidden on top of Springer, at 3 forks, and beyond? It'd be a shame to hike for so many miles and end the hike that close to boxes!

The long road leading up to the mountain is a beautiful drive-but not for the faint hearted. There IS a back way in-easy driving-though you lose the views... you come in the from Ellijay side instead of the Dahlonega side.

We spent about a year or so drivin dow to the "Big O" on a regular basis to do some construction work on the reservation nearby. It was an interesting place. I hope you have time to enjoy a few things along the way. :)
Oh, and I noticed you were concerned about how fast you have to travel. I don't think you have mich to worry about. This is Florida afterall. We build bridges taller than our highest peak. I doubt you'll have to deal with much in the way of elevation changes.
And, just one more thing. if you change your mind and go western, send up a signal flare or two. We'll bring food, lol!
