This past weekend I took my friend letterboxing with me for the first time. We were on her second ever letter box and it was getting pretty dark. The stamp was just a wee little stamp made by an 8 year old. So we took the loot over to the sidewalk, placed it down and were flipping through the logbook. Couple of minutes later I ask my friend, where'd you put the stamp. She says, "I never saw the stamp." I say, "I saw it in your hand." she swears she never saw it. I start to panic. I say, "it was a little stamp in a piece of tissue." "oh no" she says. She apparently thought it was a pit and threw it into the grass to clear our area. So we begin searching through the grass and its getting darker and darker and I'm imagining the e-mail I'm going to have to send to this poor 8 year old about how his stamp has been thrown somewhere due to its resemblance to a pit. After about an hour and lots of flashlights we finally find the little bugger. My friend has now promised not to throw pits when letterboxing and I've promised to acknowledge when placing a small stamp in front of her. Anyway a tragedy turned funny. :)

Whew! As I read the story, I too was imagining the email you were going to have to send to break the heart of an 8 year old. I am so glad you do not have to send it.
