First of December! First of December! Just after Thanksgiving, but before the holiday rush body checks everyone. We can do Mugatu imitations of "I feel like I'm taking Crazy Pills!" Additional comments about Derek Zoolander and freak gasoline fights are optional. I can smell the gingerbread now.

Tips can be things like:

How to safely submerge a letterbox in the eggnog
What to do when Jack Frost nips at your Tupperware
Is Santas clues to your house accurate or does that reindeer with four feet measure 2 paces at a time, calling it one pace?
Missle-toe and camoflauge (not the stan ridgway song) ... how are they connected?
Pine Trees - the differences between Douglas Fir and loblollys aka: Look for the big pine tree
People that only find and never plant. Are their hearts four sizes too small?
Everytime a letterboxer has an aha! moment, an angel gets their wings
You'll log-books

*HA we will be sure to steer clear of your gathering...the winter bbq...Dr. Watson's schoolhouse event too.*

I didn't even know there were other events in Ohio, did know of the winter BBQ. December works for me. Heck, any other event works for me!

You guys eat trees for desserts? Y'all sure are grizzled! Geez, there are better ways to get your daily dose of fiber. ;-)

Seriously, what's a loblolly dessert, other than something fun to type. But not as much as lolliop is to type. Not just fun to say, fun to eat too!

I'm stll stuck with Zoolander, having this image in my head of someone - and I'm not sure who yet - delivering that "I invented the piano key necktie. What have you done Derek? NOTHING! You've done NOTHING!"

I really need to sleep.

TMD---

The Winter BBQ is actually in KY and is being put on by mowizliz...many of us are going to that one

here is the link

http://www.atlasquest.com/events/event.html?gEventId=400

Dr. Watson has the schoolhouse event....she had one last year that was a great success and is planning on one again this year. I'm not sure if it's posted yet or not....I need to check?! ACtually I think it was more in the spring....like in April....

I like what Mn8X said---early December would be good so none of us are overwhelmed with holiday stuff.

Woohoooooooo!!! speedsquare said YES!!!! She said yes!!!

Mn8x said she'd find the place---which means they can set the date!

I vote the earlier in the month---the least likely the weather will be bad for ss to travel---and anyone else making a longer trek.

What can we do to make this as easy as possible on you???

Hey, I'm looking at December 1 and I don't have anything planned yet.

I better stock up on more Kentucky Bourbon. AQ calendars and incredible edibles are my gifts this year. Shall I plan to carry them to the BBQ once more?

I do love gingerbread too!!!! I make a mean Lebkuchen and intoxicating Apfel Strudel, if anyone is interested.

Kentucky Bourbon??? Did I miss that somehow??

And you know how to make Lebkuchen?????? and intoxicating Apfel Strudel????

Are you German too??? I don't think I even know anyone who knows what Lebkuchen IS other than my mom .... and now you! Heck---even my mom doesn't make it?!

Dec 1 and Dec 8 are open for me.....but I think the 1st would probably be better since he has the least potential for other holiday events.

I would prefer it on a Saturday, and the Dec. 1 is just as good as Dec. 8th at this point. Will it be in Columbus? Since St. Nicholas Day is December 6th, we could celebrate a little early. Bring an extra pair of shoes, slippers or crocs and see what he brings!

Yes, if I know how many are attending I could bring the ingredients and surprise everyone with a personal tin for the holidays ... but you must promise not to open them for at least 2 weeks, preferably 3.

I haven't made Lebkuchen in a while because I'm the only one (besides Dad) that'll eat it. And Mom says he shouldn't have it. I soak my white raisins in rum before I put them in the strudel.

My ancestry is German, but distantly so. My recipes for Linzer Augen, Lebkuchen and Apfel Strudel come directly from Austria, and adapted by me (there wasn't rum in the original recipe).

Speedsquare's Craftsman Tips & Tools of the Trade was so much fun and such a great learning experience. If you get to many people signed up, which I think 13 is a good number for a class/event, could you break it down to maybe a couple of events over a period of time? (or am I being to piggish with your time?). I would love to go, but someone who hasn't been to one of these fantastic "events" I would rather they get a chance at one and (maybe, please?) I could sign up for a later one.

ss---Austria is also awesome!!! I absolutely fell in love with that country!!! And YOU CRACK ME UP!!! You soak the raisins in rum?! lol What a sneaky girl you are!!! lol perfectamundo! =) I say---adapt away?!?!

Mn8x----I have a place we might be able to get for free---it's a huge castle-like library in Lithopolis, Ohio....very near Canal Winchester...just 5 mins at the most off Rt 33 southeast of I 270. Very easy to get too....lots of tiny shops to stop and visit in both Lithopolis and Canal Winchester if anyone is interested. If anyone wanted a short half-hour tour of this huge castle, I could make arrangements fo that too. I have to stop in there on Monday so I can do a bit of back up checking so we know. We can either get a no-frills room.....or a super nice carpeted room and I think with kitchen facilities at a cost of some sort.

Thanks for the web site! I think I've been to that one before----but it has been a very long time---if I have!!! I'll get back to you on that one! =)

Oh---ss---didn't you say last time it was a max of 24??? Am I dreaming that? Would that still be true or is 13 like Dr. Watson is saying a better number to manage??

Mac's Shak had a max- 36 (6 tables x 6 people). I knew we'd need a couple of tables for STUFF, so I made a cap of 24. As it were (hot day and all) 24 would have been unmanageable, don't you think? But if you find a larger space, a larger class wouldn't scare me away. And if there were too many at at time, I could demonstrate 2 sessions.

I'd like someone to walk us through the camo pouch. This would be a relatively inexpensive session, as most of us have a lifetime supply of ziplocs and camotape.

Maybe we can get Safari Man to do the camo pouch one!! If not, I'd be willing to do that one. I think he should have first crack at it though.

ss---are you saying we could divide up into two sessions that same day??? as in....half of you over here....have over there type of thing???

I would also like to see a fee attached to this, because I wanted to be SURE to pay you the proper amount but didn't really know if I had given you enough money!! For all the work you put into this----the last thing I think should happen is for you to get shorted.....

Divide me up? Half of me over here, and half of me over there? I think we can wait and see what the room/location can accomodate before setting anything. But if there are boxers who want to carve, for example, and already know how to make a coptic-stitch logbook and don't want to make a book, they could do something else at that time.

As far as cost goes, I think a dollar would cover my materials costs. Of course, if someone already has the materials and bring his/her own, then there would be no charge for my time. But I'd want to know how many would prefer to have the materials package made for them. Really, $1 isn't so much. And you wouldn't have to bring a paper cutter and waste time preparing the stuff. That's something I can contribute.

As far as covering the costs for my workshop, I only factored in the costs incurred by 12, though I printed materials for 15. So that 3rd pizza was not part of the costs (we took it home). Carving materials we did not use were not charged to the group became part of my stash and Jenco98 came over and bought 2 pieces from me a couple days later. I'll eventually find use for the many mastercarve cubes. I priced the papers for covers at a per piece sheet (180 in the pkg). I don't feel I can have other subsidize my addiction. All in all, the donation jar was a good idea for me. To be honest, I only came up short $5, and that is not something that concerns me. So many thanks to everyone who pitched in to help. It is so hard for me to ask for money when it feels like a party and I did the inviting.

Is it too early to tell dh I am planning a road trip in December?
