Washington State Hike-a-thon
Board: Saving the World
Jul 3, 2025 6:18pm
Hey there, I am doing Hike-a-thon again this year! For the month of August, I will be hiking trails here in Washington State and around the world and hopefully you will support me by donating to the WTA. Here is a link to my fundraising page:
https://give.wta.org/fundraiser/6481756
And to my blog post:
http://www.amandafromseattle.com/2025/07/time-for-hike-thon-2025.html
The WTA does great work here in Washington, repairing and doing maintenance on trails and advocating for our trails on the state and national levels. Now more than ever, their work is needed to protect the areas that we have come to enjoy here in Washington State.
Their website is a wonderful resource for folks looking to get out on the trails here in Washington. You can get trail reports updated all the time by volunteers about trail and road conditions. They have trail maps and even information on where to go for that after hiking hamburger or milkshake! :-)
Last year was amazing and I reached my fundraising goals very early, I hope 2025 will be just as good.
If you prefer, you can send cash or check (made out to WTA (Washington Trails Association) to
PO Box 16131 Seattle, WA 98116
Thanks so much for your support!

Well gee that's a reassuring bit of trivia. And a great way to hide the fact that our idiot pres just conceded victory to the Chinese who now have assured superiority in the energy market. US is doomed to be stuck in the past. Because our pres is an absolute idiot with zero vision for the future.

I have the above spiral journal that I use for my logbook. I'm looking for a plastic "page divider" for use as an "inking table protector" at events or even on the trail. Something that I can snap in and out of the logbook. I unfortunately do not have any kind of binder tool.
I am looking for ideas if anyone has made one/seen one.
thanks

So, by the "LOL" you mean you are just kidding, and don't want to reveal the real reason. I'll accept that.

If you edit the search (or scroll down to the bottom where you can see the options that are set), you have three types of boxes that are hidden and not included:
In your advanced search, you have not selected those options.
And the box you mentioned is an abandoned one, so there's your answer. But boxes with any of those three features won't be included in that search.

- abandoned listings
- boxes with no clues attached
- boxes with strikeouts

I was recently asked what my favorite July 4th had been in all my long years, and after some thought I replied that it was our Bicentennial because of all the excitement leading up to it and over the top firework displays on the day. It also made me realize that next year will be the 250 anniversary of American Independence and was surprised I hadn't heard any hype about it yet. I then began to wonder what it would be called.
According to Wikipedia it will be called Semiquincentennial, but other names include: Bisesquicentennial, Sestercentennial, America250 or the Quarter Millennium. Of these I think I prefer Sestercentennial, which is derived from the Latin "sestertius," a Roman coin worth 2.5 units. It just rolls off the tongue better, plus it matches our digital age by being Centennial 2.5.
What say you?
P.S. Fun fact, the Second Continental Congress voted to approve independence on July 2, 1776, but adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later, on July 4.
John Adams obviously thought July 2 would be the day celebrated throughout history when he wrote to his wife saying "The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more".

Crochet hooks (and it happens to knitting needles)

Searched my stash.
Found enough black and white to complete a new project.
Dang, not all black, from the same company is the same tone.
I can work with that.
(I usually over-buy, just in case. Lots of extra skeins.)
BUT, I cannot find the correct size hook.
Again, buying new hooks just to get the one size I want.
Order has been place.
Right about now I should find my hooks, wherever I put them to be handy.
Deep breath, not the first time this has happened. probably not the last.

Could you use one of those thin plastic cutting board sheets, punch holes, and cut slits in the holes? I’m going to try it for my logbook today.
Icelandic letterboxes

I will be traveling to Iceland soon and of course I want to find some letterboxes. I've mapped out active letterboxes that are listed on Atlas Quest but I ran into a problem when trying to list LbNA letterboxes. Pathway from Home Page: Letterboxes > Browse Maps > Canada/Greenland/Iceland > Greenland/Iceland. I then get the dreaded “404: File Not Found”. I can find letterboxes by putting in an Icelandic city in the Location box under Search for Letterboxes, but not just by entering “Iceland” in the Location box. There are approximately 70 cities, towns and villages in Iceland. I really don't want to do 70 searches by city. Please help.

Okay, I just tried it. I half-a$$ed it (I didn't line up the BIA holes correctly--D'OH!), but making the holes and then cutting slits in the holes actually works!
Since you don't have a BIA, maybe hole punches might work for you? You don't need a hole for all of the wires, just enough to keep the plastic in place.

Nope. From the Glossary:
If you foster a box and then view the main page listing for that box, you'll see a field called Addendum and a link to add one.
On Atlas Quest, addendums may show up on fostered boxes. Foster parents of a box are not allowed to edit the box, including the clue—even if the box has moved or landmarks in the clue have changed. They can, however, add an addendum to the box which allows a foster parent to communicate updates or other important information for future finders.

Rosie Rios is the National Chair of America 250 celebration. She just gave a speech at the Daughters of the American Revolution yearly meeting to kick off our efforts to help celebrate. Our group has been gearing up with patriotic educational materials, etc.

And here's something I just realized. One of your GLG cohorts added an addendum to an older box to tag it as being part of the mnglg25 series. When I viewed that box in Clue Tracker, I noticed the addendum has a nice yellow gradient highlight to really draw your attention to the addendum. Those Clue Tracker developers are always adding cool features!

I have 3 stamps that someone contributed to Soup's On several years ago and did not want the stamps returned. The boxer has not been on AQ in over a year.
Are they mine to do with as I wish?
Should I make them traditionals, HH, etc -- ?

The reason box #377819 isn't showing up in your La Crosse search is because the box is incorrectly located. Click on View Map for it. It's showing up in the Prairie du Chien area, about 66 miles south of La Crosse.

When I personally donate stamps, I prefer that they are used as traditional plants. But anything is better than being forgotten in a box.
(And I'm guilty of that for stamps I've received- but I'm trying to get them planted!)
