Quote I put a note on my stamped page about the fact that we weren't sure if the box would be found so hopefully others will log their find.

This is an oft-repeated debate.

But there are a lot of people who don't log their finds, who don't want to maintain an online log.

As a planter, I think it's great fun when I get out to do maintenance and there are all these unexpected stamps in there. I just checked on one of mine earlier this week that was jammed full with people from all over--it was a blast to sit and read these comments from people whose sig stamps I didn't recognize!

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to get found notes from people, particularly if they include a few details about their experience rather than just a "found." But there are lots of people in this hobby at different levels, and that's part of the game.

There are people who drop in, grab a clue or two at a time off of AQ or LBNA, never set up an online profile, never visit a message board, never try to figure out a mystery clue, never attend a gathering, never meet another boxer, never plant a box, but still, they have fun with it.

There shouldn't be just one way to do it...

And wasn't it cool to take a chance on an unknown box and then be surprised with all those who'd walked those steps before you?

We have some out there that are mysteries and have not been found yet. They have been out for a few months. We also have one that has been out for quite a while that is a mystery and has only been found twice.

Yes, it was a nice surprise to actually find the box. I hadn't thought about all the other levels of LBers. Thanks for that reminder that not everyone is an avid LBer.

The longest one of my boxes has gone unfound is Victoria Falls. It has had one known attempt, however. It was planted June 18, 2001.

My Kariba Breezes box hasn't even had any attempts that I know about.

And get this: Neither of the boxes are on long, strenuous hikes. Neither are mystery boxes. And they're AMAZING locations! One, I think, even showed up in the premiere episode of the Amazing Race--if you looked real close. ;o) Okay, admittedly, it's a long drive to get there..... but you'd think at least a handful of letterboxers would have looked for them by now.

It's astounding these boxes have languished as long as they have. *shaking head*

I had toyed around with the idea of creating an icon for boxes that had no recorded finds to help encourage people to look for that box (sometimes, people get REALLY anxious when someone doesn't find their box immediately), but I decided the other icons were more important. Plant it, and they will come. Eventually. Someday, I'm sure someone will look for my boxes in Zimbabwe. It just might take a few more years. =)

To answer your questions, though: No.

It sounds like it might be time for a road trip. Mooky - if we charter a plane will you fly us? Or, on second thought, maybe not.....

Artemis - who always keeps an overnight bag packed.
