I got an email from Greg today!!! The good news is that he is okay---but this is the second time he gotten hurt while deployed--- but NOT wounded! Thank God for that. (First time was during his second deployment to Iraq. That time he fell onto one of those spike strips during a firestorm in Baghdad and punctured his thigh.....)

Here is part of Greg's email to us:

Everything is still going pretty well. The good thing is that the water supply is unlimited and the food is okay. (Again---this is THE FIRST TIME they have had enough water and food while out on mission.)

So I got hurt---but I am okay. We built some shade right by our guns (howitzers) and we used the pole we use to clean our howitzer tube with, to prop up the middle of the tarp. Sometimes it falls when it's really windy. Well it wasn't really windy but just as it started getting dark something made it fall and hit me directly on top of my head.

I was sitting down and it felt like someone hit me in the head with a baseball bat--haha. My head was bleeding pretty bad, but it's all okay now. I don't know why it fell and it hurt but was pretty funny afterwards--especially when my guys started decribing how I reacted!! haha

We've still been busy building this place up with guard towers, more showers and rock walls etc. We've been playing a lot of poker lately during the hot part of the day--in the shade. I'm up 160 bucks right now haha. Still not winning overall but I'm definately not losing.

Greg must have at least a mild concussion because I had to edit this A LOT!!! What can a mom do from here?!?!

He also said to tell everyone hi and that all is going well all things considered!!

I'm so glad to hear the Greg wasn't seriously hurt!!!!!! I guess one tends to forget that accidents happen everywhere. I have to wonder if my son would even tell me if something like that happened. He's into the "don't worry my family" mode. On the brighter side, he's supposed to get block leave to come home from October 1 to October 15.

A mom can be thankful it was an accident and not something much worse. Glad to hear he's ok. We'll keep him in our prayers and try to think of a way to hold that pole up!

Hey Batty Girl!! That is wonderful news your son is coming home on his leave!!! He's getting a pretty good stretch too!! Excellent! He may want you to crank up the heat for him?! =)

And you are exactly right. I tend to forget about the possibility of regular accidents happening and am always worrying about him getting shot or worse. I'm so very glad once again that he is hurt---only!

Are you planning to cook his favorite meals??

Dr. Watson---when does Heather leave on her deployment???

I'll probably end up cooking a meal or two for him. But, since he only got married in February and left in May, I expect he'll want to mostly "hide out." As long as we get to see him some, whatever he wants is fine.

That is great to hear Batty Girl, you can let out that sigh of relief now that he is coming home.

TT, Heather is leaving Wednesday. It was suppose to be Monday, but you know how that goes. Also, I read about Greg's accident. Tell him to stay away from poles. Those things are dangerous.

DrWatson, do you know where Heather is going, yet? How long are the orders?

just saw this today. Haven't kept up with the boards much and thought tonight I should just see what you have posted, then I can get an update.
Ouch, hope Greg is doing okay.
I guess it would have been quite funny to see Greg's reaction when it hit him, cause I think it would have been quite a fright, and first thought be not what it was.
Yikes.
Hope you are sleeping well.
I haven't seen much in our news about our troops in Afghanistan, but then with back to school haven't had as much time to read the paper.
Thinking about you, sent off an email.
hugs.
