There's an easy solution to this problem: Think in base 2 instead of base 10. It's especially effective for people that like "nice, round" numbers. For instance, to get 100 in base 2, you only need to find 4 boxes (in base 10).
If you're a little more ambitious, you can nab your 1000th letterbox (base 2) with just 8 finds (base 10).

I'm thinking that my obsession for numbers and pats on the back are holdovers from grad school. Thats when every kudo became almighty - that's also when I paid for college myself. Traumatic memories build long term associations. But, taking a more global perspective - 100 is not all that important. I ought probably to focus on my signature stamp that I have yet to create after 8 months in the hobby. That seems like such a committment! AND I can't seem to think of what it should be! Suggestions anyone?

Or you could come to Buffalo and check out all the boxes at Chestnut Ridge! There are over a hundred there! You could get a whole ton in one day!

There's an opportunity here for patch collectors: start a "100 Club".
Then issue a separate rocker or "merit badge" for reaching 100 in Base 2, Base 3, Base 4....

Come up to Stone Mountain. I can get you over a dozen boxes on the mountain in half a day. As for the rest, I can help you there, too.

Stone Mountain is very hard. We spent 1 1/2 hours looking for the place to start a series of about 10 boxes and never found it. Such a disappointing day. (In addition to only finding two boxes, we got attacked by yellow jackets. Me - 2 sting, 16 yo - 2 stings, 6 yo - 6 stings) I decided that I was not good enough at letterboxing to attempt Stone Mountain.

that sounds terrific! can you teach me to use a compass too? I can read the totorial instructions all day and the words turn into Charlie Brown's teacher "whaaa whaa waa wha whaaa whaa whaa". Its funny that a directionally challenged individual is so attracted to letterboxing!

The boxes are easy to find, but the some of the hikes are a challenge. The trails are awesome, though, and I love the clues that have you walking up the creek beds. Definitely a place that should be on everyone's to do list.

I never considered myself the outdoorsy type. My first box was in the middle of December in NY, right before I took a flight back to GA. We walked over a mile to the place and then back and I loved every step. I especially enjoy the native american indian themed boxes. NY is so rich in that history and the places are very spiritual and peaceful. Not to mention my first find was a box by silent doug and the clue and the location and the hide were stellar. Blue Diamond x2 material for certain.

I'm looking for something more flashy - willows are gorgeous and may favorite tree, but kinda plain for a stamp, unless it's big

My thoughts, exactly!! Didn't Eidolon get 90 of those in one day?? Of course, having Chadams' guide to the ridge is a tremendous help! *nodding*

No, not that many. On the day of the event, including the "hidden in plain sight" stuff, which skews the numbers a bit, 70.
The next day, all "real" boxing, 58.
168 for the four weekend it seems (I JUST finished logging stuff today).

Last month my husband took me boxing for a whole day. We left the house at 6:30am and choose a heavily populated area for boxes and found 25 boxes that had 2 hitchhikers. Yesterday for Labor Day we went and got 13 before the rain came in. So if that is your goal just make day trips:) kmbaker
