Quote Anybody else ever meet somebody you already knew on one of these boards?

Didn't know this person before, but this is still a funny story:

I pulled over this car the other day for running a stop sign. I walked up to the car and started talking to the driver. I noticed that she kept looking at me kind of funny, and her eyes strayed to my name tag a couple of times. My profile mentions that I am a cop, and my real name (but not my trailname) had appeared in a recent local newspaper article, which was how she learned about letterboxing. She's pretty smart and comes up with "4". So after a couple minutes, she says "Are you..." (significant pause while she puts on a look of apprehension and embarassment) "...Big Ox?" She looked like she expected the axe to fall any second, having just called a policeman a big ox! We had a big laugh about it. A few minutes later, she says, "Am I going to get a ticket?" and I replied, "No, you're gonna get an exchange!"

What's funny, Is that I called a cop a "Big something-or-other" one time and did not get NEARLY the same result.

That's called a "stomp" as opposed to a "stamp".

I don't normally see the Ohio board, but Wassa's blog pointed me to this thread.

I am a registrar for a Girl Scout Service Unit. I process everyone's registrations. An article had recently been published in the Atlanta Journal about letterboxing. I had been asked to join a reporter and a few other local boxers on a hunt at Stone Mountain so that photos could be taken, but was unable to join them. The article had mentioned the letterboxers' real names and I had noted VictoriAnna's real name because I knew she lived near me based on her hiding locations. A few weeks later, her name appeared on one of my registration forms--she was a Girl Scout leader! So, I called her up and introduced myself as the Registrar and told her I had a few questions about her troops' registrations (which I did!). Then, I asked "By any chance, are you VictoriAnna?" She and I had a great big laugh. Later, she had to drop some papers at my house related to registration. I keep a big Rubbermaid tub on my side steps for leaders to leave and retrieve paperwork. I knew she was coming, so I put a giant note on the outside of my big box that said "This is NOT a letterbox". :-)

Did she leave any cooties behind, Amyrica? You better be careful!

Pats on the back for taking on the Registrar position for your local GS service unit. I was Registrar when we lived in CT...it is a BIG job!

Amyrica---THAT is hilarious!!! I actually found one of VictoriAnna's boxes back in June of 2005 while I was in the Roswell/Atlanta area for work. I am wondering if "gogaters" is a friend or even co-leader of VictoriAnna's? The reason I ask is because I only got two boxes on that trip and it was gogater's box that had a stamp of 3 girlscouts in the box and if I recall, in the logbook it said something about their troop placing the box.

I remember this like yesterday because Eidolon traveled from GA to OH to and got a bunch of my letterboxes---dropped off a HH---which I found----not knowing at the time Eidolon was from GA, I dropped it off at gogater's Old Hallows Eve box and just a couple of days later---HE got to Old Hallows Eve and saw I had been there and turned right back around and dropped off the very HH he had deposited in Ohio? How crazy is that? We've laughed about that more than once. I hope I'm not mis-stating this---but I think this all happened in less than one week?!

Mark4,

Nope--she didn't leave anything other than Girl Scout stuff in my box, but she called and giggled some more. :-)

Yes, I've been the registrar for 3 years and am trying to find a replacement at the moment. I have my fingers crossed.

Nope. gogators dropped off the letterboxing map shortly after joining it. I do not believe they were from our Service Unit or friends of VictoriAnna's.

Great story about the HH you and Eidolon shared. I hadn't heard that one!

Amyrica---you're more than welcome to jump onto the Ohio board any time! Glad to have you. And if you still follow the Cleveland Browns---ya never know---THIS might be the year! We FINALLY have a kick butt QB---better mister Bradey Quinn got there late than never. To the Cincy fans---please let me say this while I still can. We Browns fans know every year for the past, uhhhhh 10 years, we have to say this early in the season---cause even after a couple games---we go back into hiding!

I understand the hiding thing with the Browns. We were in hiding for many years with the Bengals, but the past few years have been great fun. And it is especailly fun when we play each other.

TT, the HH story with Eidolon is WAY to HILARIOUS! Don't you wish you had a camera when he found it back in GA.

Dr. Watson---YES!!! LOL I would have paid big money to see Eidolon standing there scratching his head, saying "what the heck?!" Especially because the HH was this absolutely delightful "Moose from Maine" that I would have killed to keep! VERY distinct hand carved stamp and you know---seeing a moose before I die is on my 'list'. He sent me an email that just cracked me up! Plus---when you consider how many finds he has----AND that I got to this box in HIS backyard before he did---well, it just added to the whole hoot of it all! CANNOT WAIT to meet him, Artemis, hawkeye and jdog and the rest of the GA group that manages to escape jailtime in their letterboxing escapades?!
