strange LBing experiences this week...

Ok, I have to start wondering if it's me. I made an attempt for a LB in east Denver a couple of days ago. I was happily following the clues, enjoying the nice park, when I come upon...a pen of goats blocking my path! Now, you have to understand, I have a *thing* about goats. I was chased by one as a child, and I've never really forgiven goatkind. I'd read about Denver Parks' hiring this goat service that brings goats around to eat the weeds, and I got to see them in action. Unfortunately, they were being tended by some watchful goatherds, so I didn't get my box.
Today I set out for a box in the south part of the Metro area, and this time I'm stopped by two Mormon missonaries, determined to convert me to Mormonism. It was a nice trail, if not quite the road to Damascus. ;) Anyway, I politely explained that Mormonism is not my cup of spiritual tea. They were incredibly persistent, which was all the more annoying because they were keeping me from finding my box. I finally managed to lose them, and I eventually did get this box.
I'm thinking that I need to make another attempt on that goat box. They've gotta be gone by now.

Noisy beasts. Especially during mating season. Sounds like someone's being murdered. And the goats are pretty bad, too.
Actually, this would make a good theme for a letterbox.

I think that making a goat box would only encourage them. Don't they just look demonic? It's the horns and the eyes... pure evil.

Goat and missionaries and boxes, oh my!
Sounds like you're being set up by someone. Goats in your path, being accosted by missionaries. Hey, you could have your own show of the same title "Strange LB Experiences with Allemeyn" -- I'd watch it!

I lived in an area that was super close to the BIG Mormon church. My mom gave me this great tip.
When they arrive at your door and say, "May I tell you my beliefs." You say, "As long as I can tell you mine." They always say sure and then you say. "I'm a nudist and I can only explain my beliefs when I am nude." Start taking off a bit of clothing and before you know it they are way down the street.
It worked for me every time. And i think they told all their other friends because i didn't get bothered at the door again. It could also work on the trail.

I wonder if that trick will work with Jehovah's Witness. I get them dropping by at least once a month.

Ok wait, is that line in reference to the goats or the mormons?
If there are Mormon goats on bikes.....get the heck out of the way!! You can tell 'em by the starched shirts and name tags....oh and well goats on bikes would be easy to spot....from a mile away!

They were super persistent....I would gladly have stripped on the trail to put an end to the conversation! I will have to remember that for next time.

Today I made another attempt at finding the box I was looking for when I came across the herd of goats in the park. The goats were gone, so I was able to find the box today. While the goats were gone, their pen was still there. I couldn't resist snapping a photo of the sign with my cell phone camera. I've uploaded it to my photo album:

There's a couple of signs in my gallery that you might want to add.

This one mentions towing everyone else, but you can't read that part in the photo. Hey, it was taken with my cell phone! (BTW, this is in front of a small, local mailing center, called The Letterbox.)

I love that sign. It may not be strange enough or dirty enough but I like it. Spike took this (he wasn't LBing at this point, but he is now!) and includes me, his wife Yiker, his daughter K4 and dog Onyx.

When I was in the army, one of the dudes in my barracks was a mormon. Did you know they wear special underwear? It has little runes and stuff on them. When he would be getting dressed, I would ask him if they were "the one breifs to rule them all and in the darkness bind them." He didn't think I was very funny. So I sicked a goat on him.

This, THIS is one reason why I shouldn't be reading this at work.
SAP system never makes me laugh silently until I have tears in my eyes.
It's obvious that I'm not working! . . .

Mr. Yuk’s post should have a warning label on them or a rating of 1 to 5, #1 being safe to read at work or around kids and then the steady down fall to the X-rated or LMAO #5

No kidding! I can see myself getting a letter from my college in about 4 years..."Dr. Allemeyn is a competent teacher whose research in her field is innovative. However, in light of the occasional fits of laughter emanating from her office when she is sitting in front of the computer by herself, we must conclude that she's probably crazy and therefore untenurable."
If only they knew about the goat phobia!

Newt crossing! I read that rough-skinned newts had some problems when it came to mating season...getting squished while crossing roads, etc. So much that in some areas they close roads while the newts are mating. I always thought that building roads with tubes that cross under every five or so feet would help.

Fortunately, this is basically a walking trail, not a road.
We had a great time that day, walking in the fog and the cold. I love some of the pictures Spike took of us and think I will print them out and put them on my wall.
And no, we did not see any newts that day. Sigh.

Look, this is my take on it: people can believe whatever they want, and I don't really care. What I find annoying is when people try to foist their own beliefs on me, especially after I've told them - quite politely - that I'm happy with my own beliefs and not interested in being converted. If people want tolerance, they should extend it as well.
Besides, if you re-read the thread, I think it's really the goats that come off badly.
