That is too funny. I recently attended my first gathering(of hopefully many) and that's exactly what happened to me. Only I forgot to breathe some of the time.

There's no BREATHING in letterboxing events!!! There's no BREATHING IN LETTERBOXING EVENTS!!!

I think it was Lightnin' Bug who I first heard the term "stamping frenzy" from to describe that first hour when you get to the gathering and all those boxes are in front of you, plus the exchanges and the travelers...man, what a sight! We host most of the ones we've attended, but we've FINALLY learned when we go to other gatherings to make time to LEAVE the pavilion and BOX that day (usually a Saturday). When he's down from Canada, Jiggs and his girls usually go with us and when we're done, we go and eat dinner. Then it's the same thing on Sunday (with more regular boxing instead of frenzy stamping, of course).

if you host it, they will come.

i will be hosting my first gathering this coming january.
i don't care who shows up!
I will have a wonderful time with how ever many people decide to come.
do i hope there are a lot, yes, but i'm sure a smaller crowd is easier on the mind.
