A Letterboxer's Guide to the Chestnut Ridge

I have spent the past two weeks working on this little project. The 5th Annual Western New York Gathering at Chestnut Ridge Park is going to be a huge event with alot of people from far away who have never been to the park. As it is my "home park" more or less in my back yard I have been fielding the questions on all things Chestnut Ridge. Janila asked me a few questions about the park and has inspired me to create.... A Letterboxer's Guide to the Ridge!!!!! I really think this will help alot of people from being confused or lost in this beautiful park that may seem a little overwhelming to a new person. I really think this will allow people to enjoy their experience much better. There are many things there so check it out! If anyone has any more questions or any comments about what I could do differently or how I could improve it please tell me. This is my first attempt at creating a website, so it is pretty basic. I have spent ALOT of time creating it and doing the leg work for it though. I hope you enjoy and I hope it helps everyone out a little!

Very nice!! Although I've lived nearby my whole life, I went to the park for my first time this summer. Very confusing! Your site will definitely come in handy and makes me want to head down again.

Nice job, Chadams! We have a 3000 acre park here but I myself would prefer to develop a park that has a caretaker such as yourself. I really appreciate all the work you have put into this.

Still waiting to see if I will be able to make this gathering. Would you send me your snail mail address to my AQ mail so I can send you some boxes?

Thanks!

Really nice resource, great idea to have the groupings. We've only been boxing in the park once, but spent a lot of time just trying to understand the basic park layout. Now we will be able to spend more time on the trail.

Nice job, chadams! However, I will not be using it as I do not intend to search for any boxes. There is just not enough time in 6 hours to exchange with everyone and still go letterboxing, and exchanges are my favorite part of the gatherings. So pay attention everyone: PLEASE exchange with me! I will be wearing a shirt with my name on it (trail name, that is - thanks to Dixie), so I won't be difficult to spot. I was even considering a big sign to post near me that said "Exchanges Here", but I didn't think it would fit on the plane. ;)

Forgive the delay on responding to this one (last week of summer school is hectic enough without the OTHER event we had happen...I'll post about it later!). Just so everyone has this on them, we plan to print ALL these clues up for you in our main clue book. They'll be in the groups that Chadams provided on his site, so you won't need to fumble around with 100 different box clues when you get there! Needless to say, there'll also be the new music themed boxes in there, plus any other info he can provide us with to help navigate. The only boxes we WON'T have in there are the ones that are mysteries, so do a little research on your own before you show!

It's first come, first served, though, so come early...once the books are gone, they're GONE!

I am impressed with how you put together all that info for the park. The terms and maps and box groups...all of it is wonderful. It makes me wish I could win the lottery tonight so I could come up there and see that flame in the waterfall etc. I wish we had those kinda parks here. We have the mountains and national parks (illegal to plant in) but nothing that we can just fill with boxes. bummer!
