I just wanted to take a minute to acknowledge this community that I have gotten acquainted with this
past year. I login and read the boards but haven't posted very often so I thought I respond now to a
few posts I've read along the way.
Congratulations on your promotion Loch Wench. Hope you enjoy life without the Lake Effect.
Dixie, you've had some ups and downs this year, but you make me laugh and just want to come down to Cold Mountain and watch some softball.
Shiloh, I hope the night shift doesn't get to you. I've done it myself.
Preboxed, thought about you in the blizzard, what a winter.
I always think about boxers when I watch the weather reports ( humid for Kirbert today, hot for dewberry,
cold for deniserows, rainy for Amanda and Ryan) etc.
Thanks to webfoot for supplies
Congratulations to Celtic Quinn and Kitten Without Mittens, your 5000 virtual friends take delight
in you.
Congratulations wassa on becoming a grandfather. That was fun. I love your blog, thanks for your
efforts with that.
Yorkshire Tortoise, even though you splutter Coke on the keyboard you bring a touch of class and
decorum to the boards and I thank you for your posts.
To the Cape boxers thanks for so many funfilled days exploring my own backyard.
To Green Tortuga, thank you so much for this website. I look forward to another year on the 'quest,
and urge everyone to become premium members to support this place.

What a nice post, simple pleasures!! Very thoughtful of you to do that! Happy Cake Day!!

Our cake day was yesterday (as was dtandfambly's!!). YT sent me a nice note/reminder (thanks YT) but I'm afraid I missed the rest of my Cake Day. I was in two dentist offices all afternoon with Baby Fox, who tripped in a parking lot and landed on her front teeth. I'll spare the ensuing details, but they can be imagined........... if you can stand it............... We came home and crashed the rest of the evening.

Today she seems slightly better, just trying to get her to eat something.

you can do what I did...mine has braces, and when she gets them adjusted, the mouth hurts for two or three days and she "doesn't feel like eating, Mom!"

concerned that she get nutrients down her, I bought a can of slim-fast powder. Most kids will eat a chocolate shake. yum! you can even put some ice cream in with it... I didn't get it for her as a diet aid, but to get nutrition into her when the mough hurts too much to eat. It has worked great.

Not to get too far off topic, but Ensure and Pediasure work well, too, without the weight control feature. And if you put it in the blender with some ice cream, it tastes even better.

Also, if you fix chicken soup, you can melt some cheese into it to add extra protein, and my kid, at least, swears by it!

THanks for the tips, moms!!! I'll try those! I happened to have the Carnation Instant Breakfast - I lived on it for breakfast when I was pregnant - for some reason, it tasted good when everything else was yuck! I still buy it now and then. My OB recommended it.

Unfortunately, this is my picky eater, going through a picky stage - you know how it goes. She eats two chicken nuggets, then says she doesn't like chicken nuggets anymore - lol!! I had dad stop at the store and buy ice cream, sherbert, pudding (she'll eat it out of the cups, but not when we make it at home!), shrimp (easy to chew on back teeth, and she LOVES shrimp), and frozen green peas (she loves them too - in the frozen stage ;-)) and big brother suggested goldfish crackers (easy to put in your back teeth and chew). The only thing she has had any interest in is the goldfish crackers (she's had 3). I told dad to make sure and ask big brother what to get - lol!! She's asked for ice cream several times, but just stares at it when I bring it to her. I think she's a little baffled about the logistics.

We'll survive - but I wish I'd been the one to crash in the parking lot........... ;-(

Mama Fox - who'd rather be letterboxing!! ;-))

Oh Mama Fox I feel for you and your little one. I too went through something like this when my daughter was 2. I actually was on vacation when it happened. I took her to another state to visit family while my DH stayed home working. The second day I was gone we took her to the park and she was walking up the metal slide steps that had a little sand on them and she slipped and hit her front teeth on the metal stairs and took a chunk of her gums out. It was horrible! I didn't do well with blood usually my DH was the one to deal with that stuff but I had to since he wasn't there. After this episode though I was ok with boo boos. We went back and forth to dentists for 2 1/2 months before it was over. She also wouldn't eat. We did a lot of icecream in the beginning and popcycles, those helped with the mouth being swollen. She had also put a tooth through her bottom lip. The only things I could get her to eat were icecream, jello, pudding, milk, and spaghetti it was soft and she figured out how to put it towards the back to eat it. All in all we survived it. She is now a teenager and it did not affect her adult teeth at all. I hope your little one feels better soon!

It is exciting when you see that delicious cake. Why green icing makes it look so delicious I don't know but it always does.

I don't know what weather reports you were getting, but Amanda and I were pretty darned miserable in 100 degree weather yesterday. We don't have any air conditioning. (Not even in either of our cars.) We only wished for rain. Did I mention we don't have any air conditioning? The best I could do was squirt water on my face with one of those spray bottles and aim a fan at me. Did I mention we don't have air conditioning? =)

Fortunately, it's supposed to be a good 20 degrees cooler today, and oh, it's been overcast all day. I haven't even seen the sun yet. It's been wonderful. =)

Oy, it's been hot down here in Portland recently, too.

I don't have any air conditioning either. And I refuse to get it, since there are only about 3 days a year maybe that it's needed.

The freon ran out a couple of summers ago and I never replaced it, as I thought I'd be unloading this car by now. I still have it . . . So, I can't even get in my car and get cooler and I have to park it in the shade before I head home. That way, I don't have to roll the windows all the way down, cause then all the garbage and mapquest paper floating around in my car would float out the windows.

I'm one of those obnoxious people who wish for clouds and rain after several days of sun.

Yes, I am an Oregonian/PNW'er and I have webbing between my toes . . .

What a nice message!

Happy Cake Day~I hope it's carrot, my favorite. But, as I'm a guest at your party, I'll take whatever you're serving.

And yes, the rain has stopped, so it's been super hot down here. But my sister's been hotter in Seattle, without the benefit of A/C. We're planning a little road trip to Fort Worth this weekend to see the Science of Star Wars exhibit, and I'm just betting my little ones will flat-out refuse to letterbox with me, due to the heat!

Oh, me too... My DH and I lived up in Humboldt for several years and we wish we could go back... I remember people used to complain of the heat after a few days in the 70's ... LOL I long for those days as I sit here with a 16" fan blowing on me because it is 100+ outside... blech!

Oh well... we are headed up to the Lost Coast for a camping trip soon and I will get some much needed relief then =o)

Cheers!

We were feeling the pain too, though we do have AC in the car. The temp in the house got up to 82 yesterday, on the main level, despite all of our best efforts. If any of you were wondering if we ever miss living in Phoenix the answer is NO, but at least we had AC there.

*Wouldn't mind some boxing in the rain, myself* Keep cool!

My cousin's 2 1/2 yo recently had his tonsils out. When he came home from the hospital, he refused to drink anything (I don't blame him). The only way my cousin could get him to drink anything was to take him over to Grandpa's and have him lay down the law. I'm not sure exactly what my uncle said, but it apparently worked! :) So anyway, I'm sure she would sympathize with you, Mama Fox. Poor kid, I hope her mouth feels better soon.

Oh, I'm so sorry Mama Fox! I've not had any busted teeth... yet. You saw how adventurous my littlest is at the Splash gather. I know my times coming.
As for the weather ~ here in Kentucky where the climate is supposed to be moderate we say, "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute". We don't have air conditioning in our home and since I don't work outside of the home I'm use to it. From my vantage, we've had a pretty mild summer (so far). But my Father-in-law has air conditioning and every year he grumbles that it's so hot. I tend to get cold in AC now. But I have a friend who is from up north (somewhere in Michigan), and she's complaning it's too hot in Novemeber! And opens her outdoor pool up in March! Brrrr.
Happy, happy on the anniversary Siimple Pleasures. Can't wait to look back on a year or two for us (maybe by then we will have found more boxes that haven't been "misplaced".

Baby Fox is better - she's eating, and has most of her energy back (drat ;-)). She's also starting to pull the usual scams "I can eat these cookies with my back teeth, but not these green peas" - LOL!! The teeth still look pretty horrible, and I'm trying to get used to the idea that they *might* stay in, but probably won't (preparing for the worst..... )

Foxy Boy is a fabulous nurse - if he wasn't so squeamish, I'd say that's a career choice. He makes presents, waits on the sick person hand and foot (even when they don't want him to!) and generally drives the sick person crazy hovering about. When I get a migraine, it's terribly hard to communicate to him to just GO AWAY and I'll get better... ;-))

TO make all this letterboxing related (well, Baby Fox's teeth aren't a bit letterbox related!) this morning we met some out of town boxers for coffee (Hi galaxy4 *waving*). As always, it was fun to sit around, talking boxing, swapping stories and doing an exchange. I was very excited when we parted ways, and called my husband "Guess what, I met some out of town boxers this morning for coffee at Brueggers" "By accident??" "No, we arranged it when they knew they were coming to town" "Why?" Sheesh - if you gotta ask, you will never get it - LOL!! Personally, I think it's fabulous to go to another town and be able to meet people with similar interests, and have a fun conversation over a cup of coffee!! Letterboxing is cool!

Chime in Letterboxers across the country. Is the weather changeable everywhere?
