ask KoTL about speeding on backroads south of Cincy just over the WV line...or about being pulled over in CLT NC in our work parking lot for speeding
Heck I was pulled in the UP while on vacation with my wife and my inebriated brother, trooper was following a semi on a 2 lane rd, i went by like a BOH, he hit the lights, I pulled over before he was turned around...so he walks up, and ask's if I am on vacation (NC PLATES) AND A CAR TOP CARRIER ON THE VAN..and my drunk brother yell's No, he's visiting our parents...warning 1 to my brother...then the statey asks if we know why he pulled us over, drunk brother hollers, you didn't we were waiting here for you...warning 2 to lush family member...then the police man asks for licence, registration and proof of insurance(which isn't needed in NC)...the soon to be dead drunken hitchhiker in the back screams at the top of his lungs you need to say please, didn't your momma ever teach you the magic words...needless to say, I was busting out inside, my bride was horribly embarrassed and showing it...and the lush lump in the back was rolling and laughing so hard, it made him piddle his pammies, in my van no less...and the statey let me go with a warning because I had my paramedic sticker in the back window...moral...hmmm...disown drunken family members or duct tape your brothers mouth...
Be Safe...

Here you go, Buckeyes (and others with a vested interest) ...

Nationwide help Goodbye, Columbus

For the rest of you ...
Another checklist before you jump in the car

Another tip ... 6 miles over the speed limit is probably not going to get you in trouble in many of the places I drive, but SEVEN is the magic number. Gotta love that cruise control.

Great story BR1. I have a few inebriated brother stories too, but they don't involve the law. They could have, if I'd killed them!
Back in the '70's, my older brother came home from the army and decided to go out with his buddies. Well, they took my car--a 1957 Chevy. When HE brought it back, he had cut the top off of it and made it a CONVERTIBLE!!! WHAT WAS HE THINKING???

OOOHHH - That would be fun. So - the instructions would be to send it to anyone that confesses to getting a speeding ticket during a letterboxing trip?

OMG - What a funny story. Once the story book is created it needs to be sent to you after those of us with actual ticket stories are done with it.

Hey DW - was it by chance a Bel Air? I gotta know since I carved that 57 Bel Air for the Cluez-in.

After reading all of these posts---I think another bit of common ground has surfaced?! It seems we are all speed demons---only sneaky about it (so that sort of lines up with letterboxing---we go find em but we do it sneakily). Speedsquare---I checked out your speedtrap site about Columbus---wow---I pretty much agree, especially on a few of them. Thank you for sharing with us!!! GTK

Sits N Knits---your FBI comment about peeking out the window made me laugh SO loud---out loud! In some post office somewhere---our signature stamps are probably all lined up on the FBI's 10 MOST WANTED LIST?!

Don't let all those posts make you believe I'm such a speed demon. I was in my younger days. For the past several years I have cooled down for economic reasons. I don't work full-time, so I can't use the argument that the amount of gas I waste at 75-76 would be offset by the money I earn in the 15 minutes of time I save. I'm trying to work out of a job, not find a reason to work (read, feed my need for speed). For the life of me I cannot understand why the speed limit was raised from 65 to 70 AFTER 9/11, and while we are at war. I understand commerce and creation of wealth requires timely delivery of goods and services. But at what cost? I would cheerfully drive 60-65 if that were mandated. But I am only one person and I would get run over or cause more traffic snarls if I acted alone. I'm just not in that big a hurry anymore. Why doesn't someone promote this as healthy for our environment?

Hey Speedsquare! So THAT'S the ACT answer to that word story problem!!! Isn't it funny that that IS how we think! Me, too! We don't really think of you as being speed demon at all---just highly aware!

I've slowed down somewhat too. Here in Columbus, I swear it has become just like driving I-75 through Detroit when you drive on the I-270 outer belt and I-71 through downtown. It's craziness. LOL More than once I find myself assuming the 10 and 2 defensive driving position. I have one montra or another going through my head at the same time too. Whatever it takes to get through in one piece. (Oh---and get those boxes, too.)
