Isn't it funny?

How one simple little thing fixed in your house can make you extremely happy and satisfied? My basement light switch has been getting worse and worse to turn on and stay on since we moved in 6 months ago. You'd have to switch it on and off so many times plus play with it, wiggle it, hit it just to get the lights on.... then you'd get down to the "dungeon" and they'd go off so you'd have to go back up and do it all over again.....

My parents came to town this weekend and I'm scared of electrical work thanks to watching my dad fly back across the room once putting in an outlet. So I asked Dad to "help me" since I've never done it myself either....

The switch is actually ON the wall, not in it, the wiring is extremely old and he warned me that if it wasn't the switch, he wouldn't be able to fix it. I made him wait until I turned the fuse off, he said it wasn't necessary but I insisted (maybe that's why he went flying so many years ago?!). So we take the switch apart and go to the hardware store with it. They laughed and said that 20-30 years ago they could have sold him the same thing but not anymore. Then he started babbling about hot wires and circuits and I zoned out and my dad's just like, what do I need? We got a handful of stuff and I returned a toilet part that I didn't need, so the whole thing cost me $4.

Dad put it all together for me, showing me how the entire way and yay!!!!! Light goes on, light goes off, all with flip of a switch! Yay!!!! I was all woo hooing thru my basement, hooting and hollering. I'm still dancing around, just so excited!!!

Just had to share ; )

We're knee-deep in home improvements around here too because we're putting our house on the market in about 10 days. It's also so funny how you don't fix up your house until you're leaving it. I'm just down-right TICKED OFF at ourselves for "living with" stuff we didn't like. I had no idea how easy it was to tile our bathroom, or to replace a faucet. Never again. When we get to our new house I'm going to make sure that we live in our space the way we want to.

And in the meantime, I'm going to try not to kill my husband before we get there.

My man and I end up yelling a lot when we're trying to fix things and at one point he says, "why are we yelling at each other, I'm not mad at you, are you mad at me?" I wasn't and said so.... we agreed that when we're fixing things, we're yelling at the house and not at each other and it helps..... b/c we scream and don't take offense!

It's true, and just because you live in an apartment or a rental doesn't mean you have to live with it either.

A few years ago my Mother was complaining about not liking her bathroom fixtures. I told her to have them changed out. She says, "What will I do with the old stuff." I said, "Silly, save it under the sink, when you move out you put it back." Simple.

I told my DH that when we finally move out of an apartment and into our own place, we were tearing up the carpet (unless it WOWS me) and putting in hardwood flooring. My brother did two rooms in a weekend. If he can do it, I can to (maybe better because I'm a girl, LOL) (Guys, I'm totally kidding).

You go girl, because you both deserve it.

getting started is so hard. these "simple" improvements scare me a little! So does the closet in the hall, I can't put our towels away it is so cluttered. I bought new faucets for the bathroom sink a year ago or more. it is waiting on top of the fridge to be intalled. molding for the back splash i tiled years ago is hidden on the three season porch. uggg! my hubby does NOT like projects and I need a little help finishing what i start.

I feel the same way whenever I move around the furniture in my living room. I'll be sitting at work and smile to myself thinking "my apartment looks so great right now!" I'm a dork. :D

Same thing happens after I set up my most recent IKEA purchases. :D
