Squirrels Gone Wild (now with Voyeuristic Marmot Action!)

So, the other morning before work, I'm looking out out big picture window and admiring the view when all of the sudden, I see these 3 squirrels going nuts in the yard (and not the "food gathering" nuts, either!). They're going crazy all over the yard, so I start describing things to the Highlander:
"Oh, honey, you gotta see this! These squirrels are jumping all over each other...they're all rollin' around and then they get up and chase each other to another tree...oh, man, that one nearly pile-drove that other into the dirt! (laughter) Okay, they're running past the oak now...that one keeps trying to jump on the other...actually, both of those ones are...well, that's not exactly...huh...(tilting my head sideways)...okay, not sure this is just playtime now...ohhhh...okay, if Snoop Squirrelly Dogg comes out of the other tree and asks anyone to show their fur, that would just complete this whole scenario."
Just as I'm realizing I'm actually watching Wild Kingdom After Dawn, I look over and and see the most bizzare thing I've ever seen. A long time ago, the folks who used to live here put a stump upside down near our little patio area and it overgrew with tiny vines and such so that it's a natural seat (although in past years, the termites have about worn it away). It's about 2 feet high so you can imagine my surprise when I see a full grown groundhog sitting ON TOP of it. His back is to me (about 8 feet away) and he's WATCHING THE SQUIRRELS!!!
Seriously, I did NOT want to know what else that groundhog was doing.
Just had to share!

Gee, we have a whole mess load of squirrels in Clarence but I have never seen any of the action you described. Guess all the horny squirrels reside in Niagara County!

I was going out to my car about a week ago, and two birds were going at it on my fence! I guess it truly is spring, after all!

I think I might have had the most unusual voyueristic experience. I certified my wife to scuba dive in Cozumel several years ago. We were on a night dive when we came upon two conchs (you know, they have the big shell that you put to your ear and hear the ocean) lying in the sand at the bottom of the strait, making little conchs. Ooo, la, la!

A few years ago dh and I were at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and went to see the otter exhibit. There happened to be a busload of elderly tourists there at the same time. Well- the otters were having a wild time "playing" in the water, rolling over and around each other and just generally going at it in a fairly rabid manner. The little old ladies were all going "Awww- how cute!" and the little old men were all standing around elbowing each other and snickering.

Ummm, hello? Humans have anthropomorphic tendancies!
They (ok I..) also love word play. Do you mean "wild" as in natural tendancies, or "wild" as in - Party Night!? Both? ;-p
I also wonder: Having checked most of my clues for "discrete" vs. "discreet" (found a few embarassing errors): Does Mad Grammarian's moniker refer to "mad" in the US sense of the word (angry) or mad in the UK sense? (crazy/wacky)? Now there is something to ponder!
Been thinking about this, and other things, ever since I used the word "norty" the other day and then thought about all the time I've spent in the UK.
In the words of the Violent Femmes:
Words to memorize
words hypnotize
Words make my mouth
exercise
Words all fail the magic prize
Didactically Yours,
preboxed
fully expecting to be corrected..somehow..because it is at times like these that one makes mistakes...especially typos... Oh Well!
I can live with that. It's the day squirrels learn to type and do so on AQ which scare me....wait, I think I meant "amuse" rather than "scare."

I actually think that line belongs on a different board, though directly relates to our friendly neighborhood squirrel action.
On a related note, did you know raccoon dorks are actually made of bone? They can break them for real. Native Americans used to make chest protectors out of them by stringing two rows of them together.

You know, I never, in my life, have ever had the occasion to think of duck d*cks.
Thank you pre for another night of fitful sleep.
And thank you all on your well-wishes in quitting smoking. I think I'll have to quit now, or have to face up to all of you fine folk.
Goodnight all...

Post-scriptum:
You know, I don't even think I understand the mechanics of duck copulation. Does one go upside down underwater? Do the webby feet get in the way?
Although, with the fact that liquids roll off their feathers, that would make cleanup pretty easy, right?

My kids and I went on a hike today and there were lots of squirrels out and about. Keeping in mind Sprite's experience, I was careful to shield their eyes, or distract them ("LOOK, a bear!!) if I saw two or more squirrels together, or heard extra loud rustling sounds........
THanks for allowing me to keep letterboxing clean for my kids, Sprite!!!

Which reminds me of another tale that I gotta share!
Back when I was doing the GT program in my district, I had my kids doing a research project with a PowerPoint presentation. The 4th and 5th graders had to research their dream job, including the college to go to, the classes, the volunteer opportunities, etc., while my 3rd graders got to do their favorite animals. It was a combination of learning computer usage and research skills, so it was a fabulous higher level activity. Anyway, one of the 3rd graders chose to do her project on whales. After doing the research and all the typing, I let the kids surf the net and look for pictures to add to their presentations. This little girl came up with the picture from this article: http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_blue_whale.htm
She NEVER noticed it, but had it in her presentation. I came by the DAY BEFORE we were supposed to be showing these at the district open house and had to swallow my heart when I saw it. I think I said something along the lines of: "So how's it gooo-ohhh-uh-oh...ing, hon?" Since she didn't notice and no other kid was paying attention, I just said, "That's a GREAT pic, but I think we can find one less grainy, don't you?" Then I QUICKLY opened the Explorer screen, found a pic she loved even better and told everyone to take their bathroom break while I cut and pasted the new shot, thus saving my life and career in one fell swoop.
Hmm...maybe all these animals are just trying to show off for ME! I'm the Animal Copulation Whisperer! :-O
