Hello all. I just wanted to let everyone out there know that I have arrived safe and sound in Kuwait in preparation for my journey to the big sandbox.
My internet connection is spotty at best over here, and of all the sites that I visit frequently, AQ is the one that works the best. It loads quickly and on limited bandwidth is just a dream to use. Add in the bonus that it is my favorite site on the net and you have something that is a real pleasure to me in what has the potential to be a dreadfully boring stretch of time. So I just want to say thank you to Ryan for the wonderful gift of the AQ community.

That makes me happy to hear! =) You owe it all to my dial-up connection, though. Because of that, I deliberately plan this site so it's low on bandwidth and therefore very fast to load. I imagine your Internet connection in Kuwait probably is not unlike my dial-up connection!

On an unrelated note, so far as I know, there are no letterboxes in Kuwait. You could nab "first in country" credit if you can find a place for one. ;o)

Glad to know you've arrived safe and sound. Our son will be about a month behind you in arriving to "play in the sand" as he calls it. We'll keep you in our prayers and in our AQ mail.

Under the circumstances, boring is good.

Be safe.

Danny,
Welcome to HELL...especially coming here in the summer...heck I just found out I could possibly be extended from 3 to 12 more months...WOOHOO...NOT...let me know via NIPR/SIPR ( I am on the global) where you are to be located...and we can have a taxpayer funded mini meet...let some one try to crash that party, weapons, body armor, and letterboxing...what could be better? Oh wait, I know...Wedding Season?...No being home with our loved ones , silly lil paratrooper...as my tag line says...Be Safe...the streets of southern Baghdad are horrible for Coalition and for our Iraqi counterparts, not to mention the poor civilians, pray for them...
Be Safe...

I was going to plant one when I went on leave at Ali As Salim AB at the MWR...but getting the heck outta Iraq, I forgot stuff...on a lighter note though, from the time I flew from FOB Falcon to my plane to the states was 24 hrs...but it was a long 42 hrs prior to leaving Iraq...so I slept thru Germany and barely woke up for Hotlanta...but it was well worth it...and from what I have been told, getting outta BIAP is hard, hard, hard like 3 days worth of waiting...and I was only there 5 hrs...thanks to 1-18 INF...
Be Safe...

I make stuff for a woman who sends them to the troops in bulk. One of the things we send is "cool ties," cloth strips with crystals inside that you soak in water and then drape over your neck to keep cool in the hot Middle Eastern summers. If any of our guys over there would like, and have an address I could send to, I'd be happy to make you one or more!

BR1,

Hi. There are a few of us where I work that send out care packages to those deployed. We get names from different sources. Most are sons/daughters of other employees. Some are friends. I have adopted two different soldiers. One from Colorado. The other I don't know much about yet except he hasn't gotten any mail or packages since he's been deployed. I am sending his package out tomorrow.

I don't know your situation, but if you or someone in your unit is in need of a care package, we can put one together and send it out to you. We usually get eough for the recipient to share.
Let me know if you are interested with a name and address...

You know, I'll bet there are quite a few of us here on AQ who would be thrilled to have a way to help support our soldiers! If you, or anyone in your unit could use a care package or would just enjoy notes of encouragement, or whatever else we can do to make your deployment a little better please post a message here on AQ!
